I have a Sony PS-X7 that mostly runs, but with two issues. I'm hoping that even though I'm a noobie when it comes to turntable repair, it might be possible to fix both, if I can get some guidance.
Issue one: the auto start and return semi works. It works with coaxing, such as when I turn the turntable a bit on its side. I've opened up the bottom of the TT, and it looks as if it has had fresh grease put in, but perhaps not properly. However, I did notice a white plastic sleeve around a shaft, and this plastic sleeve is cracked. I'm including a picture below. I've scanned the forums on this issue, and while there's a good bit out there, none of it was clear enough for me to know where to start with this.
Issue two: the contact controls for start/stop semi work. Pressing start will usually start the platter spinning, and sometimes it will engage the automatic tonearm; but sometimes it won't. And even in manual mode, it doesn't always release the tonearm riser, so it is impossible to lower the tonearm. Pressing it again to return the tonearm seldom works, and seldom stops the platter. However, running my finger quickly back and forth across start/stop and repeat will frequently get it working, either to start or stop spinning. Weird. Is this fixable, perhaps with cleaning or something? I've loosened the control panel so I can get a little access. I'll show a picture of that, too.
Any advice or guidance on either of these two issues would be welcome. Pics below, Thank you!
