Help with wiring please

ok i have the micro acoustics tweeter array,it has four tweeters around the center tweeter which is a super tweeter wired separately. i want to use it with a 4 way pioneer cs 901 crossover, how do i wire it?i would like to use both sets of controls ,the ones on the array and on the crossover.

the controls on the array are,one is dispersion and the other is for the super tweeter. and there is one cut black wire.i hope some one can help me otheize i am going to have to wire it the best i can through trail and error. thanx , Cleon

i can do more pictures if necessary.

hhmmm , thought i would have some replies by now .i know how this can go slow .maybe the night shift will have something,,i'll check back in the a.m..

I would take the leads to the array from the crossover (four wires) and connect the (+) High and (+)Low to the two potentiometers. The remaining (-) connections would be connected to the respective (-) of the array's speakers. You may get a botched midrange with this since I don't know the crossover point of the 901. If it is passed too low, you may not get enough high frequency in the array's "Mid" speakers.

I can't color code it for you since I can't see how the green wires are terminated nor do I know the speakers' polarities.

ok i will try and define as best i can and hope i dont confuse more. all of the tweeters are conected with the wires connected in reverse polarity.and the positive on the super tweeter goes to the s.tweeter pot an and neg on s,tweeter goes to neg on array tweeters. and pos. on array tweeters go to the dispersion pot.

i dont know it might be easier if i took tweeters out and put them in a line with the wires in a more organized fashion also i do have a voltmeter to take the ohm values.

Just try it with the original polarities, then. If it doesn't sound right, change the polarity of the circuit.

Edit: If this is just a high frequency array, just have one pair of leads from the 901's "High" out put to the speaker terminals of the array.

OK. DL'ed the PDF. Now for my question: (more like questions :D)

What are you using the pod for? Trying to add some high freq to the speakers?

How many sets of wires are coming out of it?

Where you gonna mount it, on top?

i am using it for this setup.http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=551178
on the array there is only one black wire not connected to anything it is neg to all the tweeters there wil be the s.tweeter and the reg. tweeters to connect to crossover.
oh yea i am going to mount the array on the back top of the speaker maybe get a time effect, prolly sjust sit if flat since it is omni directional with the s.tweeter firing up.

OK. Now I am lost (but what else is new :D )

If I'm reading correctly, there's no + wire off the pod, just the - lead? So how are you going to attach it to the x-over?

I also think hooking it up to the existing HF wires from the x-over is a mistake. Since I see no caps (for a x-over) on or in the pod, you'll be changing the total ohms the x-over sees.

I would like to see a better pic of the pod wiring. If possible, with the wires separated better so we can see where they go to each tweet.

If that's not possible, maybe you can draw up a diagram of how it's wired.

ok i hope this helps,,super tweeter is 8 ohms by itself, and the 4 regular tweeters are 4 ohms all wired together. the controls on the pods are 20 ohms each

if i have to lose the controls on the pods thats ok,the controls on the crossovers should be enough, it will make it easier.if you click on each picture you can get a extreme closeup.

my amp is a technics v8x it is rated at 4-16 ohms at 120 watts, soon as i get this wiring dilema out the way i can get to the actual building,do these drivers look ok to use or would i get better performance if i upgraded the drivers?maybe some soft domes in a array environment.

Thanks for the new pics. This makes it alot easier to help you. :thmbsp:

I would not integrate these into your existing x-over's. Instead, make a simple x-over for them. This will give you the ability to use them on any speaker in the present or future, and not have to mess around with redesigning anything on the x-over's.

If you want, I could walk you through it. It's up to you.

yea i will do that.and save for another project i have in mind i want to upgrade the drivers and do a good crossover with it.but that will be later. i\

i am going to just go with a simple 4 way speaker with a 10" adc 303ax woofer a 5 inch midrange and 2 regular tweeter wired in reverse polarity and a super tweeter.that is the simplest way to go.

hey guy's thank you for the help, i wish i was a little more technical savy.it is frustrating trying to do something by pictures and my lack of knowledge.

when i get it done i will put up some pictures it will not win any beuaty contests but it should sound good,to me that is more important.

i am going to do a 2 way hi/mid speaker and a couple subs but that will be later when i get some cash saved up.i will come up wit a mid/hi crossover at that time. i have read that it is not hard to do crossovers.i will use the pod at that time those controls seem to be low quality ,i will probally replace them with some good pots.

with the pods being omni directional i would like to do kind of a time aligned speaker. but this is all down the road a bit.thank again for your help i appreciate it,Cleon

If you just wanna see how those sound, you just need a couple of caps. You could even get them at a RadioShack.

(4) 2.2uf NP caps
(2) 1uf NP caps.
(1) bag of quick-connects

If you wire 2 regular tweets together, that's 8ohms. Use the 2.2 cap for them.

The 1uf is for the super tweet. Twist and solder one end on all 3 (2) 2.2 and (1)1uf to the + side of speaker wire that will go on the main speaker terminal. Cut the GREEN wire so each set (2) of the regular tweeters are in series. Solder each cap to the pod driver wires. Solder the BLACK wire to the negative speaker wire end. Connect the end of the length of speaker wire to the main speaker binding terminal.

At least you can try this cheaply, testing out the drivers, and seeing if it will work like you expect it to. Lay the pod on top, and give it a whirl.

Have Fun.

ohh ,ok, i will have to let this soak in but i got the main idea. ok i will give it a shot ,i have to get from parts express .our radio shack just closed down.

HAHA. Another one bites the dust. They're closing around here too.

If you're going to place an order to PE, go with poly caps. Not that much more.

2 of these: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=027-210

4 of these: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=027-214

Also, if you can squeeze it into the budget, grab 2 of these:

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=090-475

and 4 of these: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=260-250

Once you assemble and wire them up, they will become portable units, so any speaker can use them.

If you get the parts, and need help, don't hesitate to PM me.

Have Fun. It's what it's all about.

Phil
