Here's my new turntable!

Hi all. I finally bought a "new" vintage turntable for 180 euros (280 us dollars at the actual exchange rate) on e-bay. It's a Technics sl-1401. The cartridge is a Audio Technica AT412EP. Maybe I've a little overpaid it, but it is in near mint conditions and its owner delivered it to me by hands, and this is very important! Consider that here in Europe a new AT-PL120 costs 330 euros (520 us dollars)! The owner was an audiophile and always handled it with great care. I've attached some photos. I'm going to use it with a Pioneer sa-710 amplifier (which I already had) and a couple of Klipsch RB-35. What do you think? Did I do a good choice? Did I pay too much? Any suggestions?

I think that it will bring you many hours of audio pleasure!

How can you put a price on that? :thmbsp:

That's too cool....now let us know what the first "record" and notice I didn't say "vinyl" that you play on it is!

The turntable is beautiful. FYI, the cartridge is a rebadged AT112EP, a very nice .3 x .7 elliptical. Together they should bring you much joy hopefully for many years. :music:

I think it's a decent price if that turntable sounds as good as it looks (and it looks like new IMO).

If you're happy, then I'm happy. Enjoy!

Thanks, I'm glad you think it has been a good choice. I'll let you know how does it sounds when I'll repair the amplifier!

Buona fortuna, Andrea!

A wonderful find and may you enjoy many hours of fine listening.

That turntable looks great, you did just fine, no need to worry about what you paid. May it bring you many hours of listening pleasure.

Nice table. I'd recommend to upgrade the AT cartridge with a better needle, though - my suggestion would be an original ATN132EP.

Hey Andrea85!

Congratulations for Canada!
Awesome table. I am sure you will enjoy it for many years to come.

Cheers!

Nice choice!!! I have a SL-1401 myself. It's a wonderful table. I spent many hours on a pair of them, DJ'ing at a rock club in the early 80's.

They don't have adjustable VTA, but you can accomplish that by using a thicker mat or adding felt or cork mats on top of or under the rubber one. You'd need to do that should you decide to run a Grado Prestige series (Black thru Gold) on it. I currently have a black on mine and have, in this order: the OEM mat, a trashed thinnish record from the 80's, a felt mat and then the record I'm playing to achieve the VTA that I want -- for the Grado, slightly running up hill.

But I'm not using the OEM headshell, either. :D
