The black is dry enough for the clear coats now but I'll shoot them after lunch then rub them out during the holidays while waiting for my new TV to show up.

I'm pumped. Can't wait to get the learning curve out of the way and start watching and enjoying some good music and movies. . .

Now for some surround speaks. . . I was going all JBL until I found these bad boys. I have a great dual 12in SVS subwoofer that can do justice to the Heresy's lack of a hard bottom. . .

Now why did I sell my KG-5.5 and 4.5's. . . Those 4.5's would make great surround speakers. I prefer floor standers so I don't have to worry about what stands to use. Besides it makes a great place to put the mail when I walk in the door. . .

Well they are certainly glossy. . . Its going to take lots of cutting on that clear coat to get them right though. Maybe by the weekend I'll have them done. I'm through for now. ., .

They are really nice as is but once I finish rubbing on them they will be extraordinary. I really didn't allow myself enough time to turn them into treasures but in time if the feeling hits me I may 'upgrade' their finish to a true piano gloss black rather than a paint job seen on a black cadillac.

True PGB is damn hard to do if done right and would take me a solid week or more to do it. As it is I get the gloss and depth from a good 2K Poly Urethane finish that you do actually see on an 07 Cadillac. While tough as nails and will out last us all just sitting in a living room it ain't the same.

I thought they would look pretty close and in reality once finished they will be pretty close. Its just hard for me to devote that much time and energy into something that really is kinda meaningless in the long run.

Later this week once I get the new cross overs mounted and the drivers loaded I'll shoot some glamour shots to show them off a little. . .

Actually it is kinda fun and it gives me something constructive to do rather than just sit on my ass all the time. . .
 
Cross overs arrived this afternoon. . . Got the risers built and attached with hot melt glue. I'll attach the cross overs and load the drivers tomorrow.

Got my new TV and new receiver hooked up and going today. . .

Maybe by this time tomorrow I'll have everything hooked up. calibrated and enjoying by nightfall. . .

The cross overs look awesome. . .

I think I'll have to live with a decent glossy black paint job rather than a PGB paint job for now. They look wonderful but not enough time or materials for PGB.

Once I get everything back together I'll shoot some pics and show them off a little.

Once they are in place sitting along side the new Elite TV that is PGB they look absolutly gorgeous as they are.

Long day ahead but the kind of day that makes you feel like you got something done and the kind of day you look forward to getting up and getting started.

I'll spend one hour each rubbing out the OP. Then load the drivers and cross overs so around 1PM I should have them in place. Another hour or two getting everything calibrated then after dinner I should be able to enjoy them for what I hope they are.

I do need to keep my eyes open for 3 more or 3 more speakers that match the tonal quality and effeciency of these guys to complete the system the right way.

Then I can get busy doing the same thing to my 4312A's. . . another story. . .

One Down

One down and one to go.

pic #1 - BC cross over safe inside the box

2- Old cross over. . . what I thought looked like new just fell apart in my hands as I removed it from the cup. The old hot melt has lost its ability to hold anything. I'm surprised they weren't rattling.

3- New Velcro for grills

4- Tar like gasket material (butyl rubber actually) originally used as a moisture and vapor barrier. Works great for sealed boxes. . . Plus you can remove the drivers easily for awhile in case you have to. . .

I think it was Home Depot. . . A couple years ago when Best Buy's little 40 dollar speaker was so hot there were mods floating around every where. I bought it to line the box along with stuffing to fill the box as well.

One thing led to another and for what I'm using those cheap speakers for they sound extraordinary without all the effort so I hung on to it just in case a more worty project came along.

It comes in a roll about 6in wide. You cut it to fit. Back side is peel and stick, sticky stuff just like tar.

I'm sure there is better stuff out there but its what I had and seemed to work out fine so far.

"Protectowrap" or some such is what its called. I think it might do very well inside the box for sealing it up. Not sure if there is any off gassing going on that might hurt some plastic stuff. No odor just tar like sticky. . .
 
Oh btw. . . Got them in place. Will fire'em up in the morning when I have time to fiddle with them. They do look great next to the TV, kinda ties everything together. The height especially works out great.

Yes I used my wife's hot melt glue. You can knock them off with some force but they are secure enough to do what they need to do.

Initially I used the hot melt just to hold them in place while I put screws into the speaker but they appear to work just fine without the screws.

Color is 2007 Cadillac Black. It's the blackest black I've ever seen. You can shine a flashlight beam right into it and it dissapears. . .

I think there are 27 different blacks and I wanted the blackest one I could find. Almost impossible to take a good picture of it because it is so black the camera doesn't know what to do. Consisting of a Black basecoat (solvent base) and a 2K Urethane Clear coat over the basecoat. It is a basecoat/clear coat system.

Hangs on like grim death and harder than the hubs of hell. . .
