Names like MCS and Nikko have finally achieved various degrees of recognition.

Now for sleeper pieces very few know about we have to go H.H. Scott, Curtis Mathes, and Lafayette.

My understanding from my research is that though there was A LOT of crap made by LXI there was in fact a small % of, if not top notch, at least squarely above average stuff made by LXI.

I keep seeing people on here and elsewhere having said that but they never go into detail on EXACTLY WHAT the good stuff was. It is quite maddening actually because there’s like nothing on the web and people seem to want to keep what exactly which LXIs to themselves.

I also have a Nikko receiver, about 30 watts and it's very nice.

The thing about all of these "sleepers" is that they are discrete amps, not made with "flat pack" IC power amp chips like many in the late 70's were (ref Fisher Studio Standard and Sony).

There are a number of "sleeper" brands.... I have a very nice Miida receiver that I got at good will for $5. Looks great and has a nice 30 or 40 watt discrete amp. I also have a Magnavox receiver that looks like it might be decent but I have not opened it or powered it up yet...

I decided to replace the power supply filter capacitors, but I ordered the wrong pin configuration so I had to make an adapter board. The resulting home made board looked pretty crappy but it was fun and worked perfectly!

Also, note the trick to removing capacitors glued to the board... just unsolder then cut and peel off the plastic wrap and the capacitor will pop right out!
