It's hard work, let me tell you that. I've sold some audio stuff on ebay, and it's a lot of hard work: Packing properly is hard work, schlepping the stuff to the post office is time consuming, and oftentimes the buyers are not as nice like that guy seems to be.

I'm going through a bad time with an ebay seller at this time. Sunday night I bought a Marantz 2250 and paid through Paypal as soon as I bought it. Didn't hear anything from the guy so on Tuesady I emailed him and asked him what was up. He said "with any luck it will ship tomorrow". Today's Thursday and I haven't heard back from him. No tracking number, nothing. I've emailed him asking him the status of my order and have had no reply. From now on I only buy from sellers I've done business with.

Sadly, for every one like this guy there are probably 100, maybe 1000 who are fly-by-night, don't care, don't know, and are only out to rape you and me.
I find it funny he actually said he sold a pair of speakers for 2000 pounds and expected only 500. Probably tells you something. Makes me wonder what he paid for it originally to accept 500 as "reasonable".
I think Ebay loves the auction in that it gets more rather than a flat listing fee. And emotion runs up prices..... don't ask how I know.
But it is nice he is one of the good guys. But we rarely remember them, only the bad ones.

please guys... ebay is just like any other place. you mean to tell me there's no audio boutiques in your area that aren't willing to relieve you of your wallet as easily as possible? i think you'd be hard pressed to find any audio boutique that isn't pushing at least one product who's benefits haven't been scientifically proven.
i think ebay is a great equalizer. sure the prices of some gear have sky rocketed but by the same token its taken the mystery out of other pieces. when you walk into a brick and mortar store you've never been into your at the mercy of the seller much like on ebay.
for the record i do sell on there at times but i also buy alot of stuff. yeah, sometimes people have no clue how to pack but that's not limited to just ebay. i've received items from AK'ers that were packed like if they were going to war and a few items that arrived on a wing and a prayer.
its just another market place just like craigs or the local paper.
i collect high end tube ham radio gear. this usually leads to buying out entire collections to get a few pieces i want. sometimes ebay is the only way to liquidate a big pile of stuff before you end up with no space to store it all.

My Marantz seller finally emailed back and told me he was going to ship it today, Friday. I've always has sellers who shipped faster and communicated better than this guy. As long as the receiver shows up as advertised and in one piece I guess that's what really matters. I have three Yamaha receivers that sound great, I just wanted to put a Marantz in the rotation.
