Highest-end gear you've found at a thrift

Triad mini monitors for 20 bucks. Accuphase T 105 tuner for 10 bucks. Pioneer sx 434 and sx 650. Hitachi ps 10 tt...basically nib from the mid seventies. I guess the Triad and Accuphase stuff might be considered high end.

I think Triad is pretty good stuff. I got my Triad Bronze subwoofer at a thrift store for around $20. I have let two Velodyne subs go but the Triad remains.

High end as in high priced? A couple of weels ago, I fond a Denon AVR 4806CI which had a MSRP and street price of $4.000 in 2006! Paid $100 which is about 2.5 cents on the dollar. A/V receivers depreciate faster than German sedans. Today, the 4806 is worth around $300 so my score is not a smoking deal in relation to the current market.

A Pioneer SX-950 is my highest-end find, but I had to pay $100 for it, high for a thrift store.
Next highest-end item was a Pioneer SX1000TW in fine shape for $32.

If you define best value as: How much I like it / How much I paid ,
Then the little Sherwood S7100-A ($15) receiver that I am currently enamored with is my present best value.

The little Realistic STA-430 that I dragged by the power cord out from under a wet rug at Goodwill buy-the-pound for $4 runs a close second.

I remember going to the electronic tech shops checking to see what they were going to toss out because customers did not come back for their equipment....those were the days my friend, I thought they'd never end !! Then a bunch of dolts though they could put all their music on disc and drop off their vinyl at the Goodwill where I was visiting two, three times a week. My favorite find was a VG/VG of Crosby, Stills and Nash's first album. But when you see a Yamaha MX-1000 sitting at St. Vinnies for ten dollars, I bought it and made my buddy give me twenty bucks for it and he still has it. I bought one new and still have it.

Not finding nearly as much great equipment for cheap at places like Goodwill. It seems they've gotten savvy and realize now the vintage stuff has value. Damn internet and ebay...lol.

That Sansui AU-999 in my avatar pic. $20. Goodwill. It didn't look like that when I found it though. Filthy, rusty inside, and filled with dust and cat hair. Took me a long time to clean it up and replace a few cosmetic parts, restore the wood cover, etc. Everything works. Even came with the wood case. I love the look and it's got two phono inputs.

Dry holes around here lately. Did get a Dual 1219 last year for $14.14, Cart and stylus looked clean as new.

Why did I ever want to read this thread!!!

Mcintosh MC 7270, $30 minty and worked perfectly, used x3yrs, then sold it. 1st pick is in my front seat after purchase...GW tags on top!!

Wow I forgot all about this thread. Certainly some great finds listed here.

Since my last post I guess the Focal Cobalt 816's and Center Channel found at a Salvation Army might qualify here and maybe the Yamaha DSP-A1000 with remote.

I look forward to seeing more scores posted here.

An update.
Local SA-Vienna Acoustics Mozarts 10.00 virtually mint, but needed to repair one woofer surround detachment, and replace another woofer. Rosewood cabs, sequencial #'s. Was there when the original owner was dropping them off.

Onkyo A-8190 integrated and DX 5500 CD player pair for 120.00. Gorgeous condition, original owner dropped off just before I walked in. Weren't yet price marked.

Another set of AR3's for 50 bux from GW. (toilet paper stop thread) I restored and sounding awesome!

Pre-Esprit Sony TA-N86B preamp, Sony TA-E86B amp, Sony X55ES CD player, a Kenwood KD-2055 turntable with B+O SP12 cartridge and an EICO ST-70 tube integrated amp. The solid state stuff is all in immaculate shape and the EICO has been customized. CAN$43 and change for the whole package about a month ago. Not super high end, but the highest I have found at a thrift. I certainly felt good that day.
