Hitachi PS-48 tonearm lift won't adjust. Any PS-48 or Realistic RD-8100 owners here?

The "up / down" switch on my PS-48 will raise and lower the tonearm lift just fine, but the lift itself sits too low and won't adjust higher and I'm not sure why. I unscrewed the hex screw in the tonearm lift like the service manual said, but the lift still wont extend higher. Could it be that the lift is a piston and it's stuck? I have no clue what to do. I'd appreciate any help from someone familiar with this type of lift

You may need to examine underneath the table and potentially cleaning out any gunk that may be hindering the piston. That or the rubber rest on the cue arm itself is gone.

I did look underneath: the bottom of the piston has a pin going through it to stop the mechanism at its highest point. So when I lift the cue arm with my fingers I hear a click at the top which I now know is that pin stopping the arm. That’s what leads me to think that the cue arm is supposed to adjust up from inside the piston but it’s stuck

I have a PS-48 that I just tried to adjust the tonearm height last night. The cue arm is the black plastic fixed to shaft with the hex screw. The problem is the cue arm stuck to the shaft that's why you couldn't lift it even you loose the hex screw. Try to turn the cue arm back and forth a few times and you might be able to loose it from the shaft. You don't need to go underneath, there's it nothing to do with underneath.

Thanks. I actually did pry it off about a week ago. My only problem now is that even with the cue arm just barely sitting on the shaft at its highest, it still doesn’t get the tone arm up off the record. The hydraulics stop maybe just a millimeter or two below it’s absolute highest (if pulled up by hand) but even at it’s highest it’s super close. I might just find sometime to stick on the top of the cue arm to give it some extra height. Not sure

edit: I’d love to see a photo of how high yours sits off a record when it’s in the ‘up’ position

If you can post pictures of the issue, it would help immensely. I am having a hard time visualizing as it's been many, many years I've been inside one of these tables.
