I also used a gauge that probably has a little more capacitance than it should. I mistakenly bought 18awg thinking less resistance is better, effectively I’m rolling off the treble a little.
I appreciate the car analogy. It makes perfect sense. I agree that the scientific method should be approached. However as it stands, my home brew cables work, I can hear music that I love. And it beats the cheapo mismatched cables I had previously.
I would love to test the home brew cables on a more sensitive source. When I pick up my modified turntable I’ll ask if I can hook up my cables into one of his mc tables. If he says yes, I’ll report back!

I guess some here will think I fit into that group, but I believe cables can make a difference. I don’t believe the audiophile mumbo-jumbo usually associated with boutique cables. Basically, I want to know how and why this cable or that one produces the claimed results. The problem with many commercially made cables is the their lack of any measured results and often preposterous claims of why- and of course the price.Waiting for the “cables don’t make a difference” guys to chime in.
Regarding the OP’s project, if you like them, that’s all that matters. I would like to see actual performance comparisons showing me why they are better than the old cheap interconnects.
Logic and my own knowledge tells me the ability of a 2ft piece of wire connecting a preamp to an amp is not going to remove the “veils” and other audiophile masks imposed by the audio source and everything in the signal path prior to the wire.
No offense, but Zack built these with intention of improving the performance. Could it be expectation? Could it be the old cheap interconnects were oxidized and not conducting well?
I don’t say “ cables don’t make a difference”, but I’m sure someone will read between the lines and interpret that. Those are usually the same ones that can hear the fuse orientation, power cords and outlet covers, but not in a blind test.
