hook up subwoofer to NAD receiver with mono out?

I want to pick up a sub today for my setup. Usually not a subwoofer guy but the speakers I’m using right now (Ortofon 335) I love listening to much EXCEPT the low ends leaving much to be desired. Strange too since there 10” woofs by Scanspeak

Anyways! Could I possibly hook up this subwoofer to this receiver? Could I use the mono out on the receiver?

IF you get a powered subwoofer it would place no extra load on the NAD
You could run the Ortofons on "A" and the sub on "B", with the speaker selector switch set to A + B .
Or run TWO wires off each "A" speaker connector, one wire to Ortofons, other wire to sub.
OR depending on the Sub, you could run wires to the sub (sub IN) and then a set of wires to the Ortofons using sub OUT
Passive subwoofer would place more load on the NAD.

Ok gotcha. I posted a picture of the sub woofer and the back of the receiver. There is a mono out. Couldn’t I run the mono out from the receiver to the mono input on the back of the sub?

I see you posted a picture of a sub, is that the sub you would be using?
I ask because different subs have different connection options.

Yes that’s the sub I’m hoping to use and that is my receiver, which is a NAD AV 713

If yes, then it should be fine feeding the sub. If no, then no.

Not 100% sure. If it is, would I just hook up one rca to the mono on the back of the receiver and the other end to the mono port on the back of the sub?

He should likely try with the sub's level at minimum anyway, but I can't imagine any amp or receiver. from the 70's or later having a mono output that's not controlled by the volume control. What purpose would it serve?
I see center and rear speaker outputs but no digital inputs, so this is likely a ProLogic receiver. Quite a few of those had a mono output that's not an LFE / .1 output, since Dolby PL didn't have those channels. It's likely a full-range mono output with a level controlled by the volume control.

If you find a sub with high level inputs, you can parallel the connections on the back of the receiver to power your mains and the sub. The high level input impedance of these kinds of inputs have no effect on the amp, because the subs impedance is very high.....like 50k. It samples the signal going to your speakers and turns that signal into a line level signal inside the sub amp, and that signal is what drives the sub amp.



Down in the right corner are the high level inputs on this SVS-1000 sub.

I mentioned that (parallel though I didn't call it that) in my first post.
I also mentioned running wire to the sub ins and using the sub outs to the main speakers..
The sub you posted does not have speaker outs so it's a perfect example of why I cautioned the OP that not all sub connections are the same and would influence how he could wire it with his receiver.
Nothing wrong with the sub you posted, it shows how different subs allow different hookups.
