Ebay Feedback

Don't leave any feedback, that is your lever and once you use it you lose your ability to persuade. Make him believe you will use it...and negotiate from there

Changes in the Ebay feedback system introduced several months ago give the buyer much more power. Sellers can no longer give a negative feedback to buyers.

How much leverage you have at your disposal depends upon how much he wishes to avoid receiving a negative feedback that will have a detrimental effect on his business.

How many items does he sell a month? How many feedbacks does he have and what is his feedback rating (positive percentage)? If he is a 100% or a 99.9% positive he will jump through hoops to please you. On the other hand, if he has lots of sales and is only like 98% positive or below he may be difficult because the potential of receiving one negative feedback would not change his rating much.

Guess I'm just supposed to pay to send it back and trust the seller to pay me after they knowingly sent me a fried stereo and lied about it working:nono: YUP like thats realy gonna happen
 
nope. no sending it back. I had a Marantz 2220B damaged during shipping (bent faceplate corner). I contacted the seller, and they refunded my purchase price, and I didn't have to send the item back. That's absurd to expect you to send the item back for a refund. I'd bring all the wrath I could on the seller.
 
You have every right and are 100% entitled to a refund. You bought it with the representation that it was functional and working. He lied, you get your money back. If you paid via paypal, file a "nonworking item" claim according to the terms relative to your purchase. Write an NON-emotional and fact based formal complaint, make no personal attacks and provide the facts as you have with us. You WILL get the money back if the right claims person sees it. If not, file another complaint with mgmt in Paypal. There is NO reason you have to eat the loss on this one!

eBay has become a VERY expensive dumpster hunt...I would say that 80% or more of the people on there know FULL WELL that they are selling damaged goods and hope they can recoupe the loss either in selling it or hoping they can falsely claim it was damaged enroute. I love when I can go back and show them and Paypal in the auction photos that no, here is the very subtle and not mentioned or (noticed by me prior) proof that it was this way when you were auctioning it. And then nail them with negative feedback AFTER you get your refund. I always ask the seller: is there anything I need to know about the condition prior to bidding, because I am not here to buy junk or damaged goods... :)

Full refund and if he wants it back he can include return shipping. Don't send it until you have your money.

The way he writes I'd bet you are dealing with a kid. :uzi:

I believe paypal is not going to refund you unless you have Online verifyable proof that it was returned. I could be wrong but I doubt you will get anything from paypal unless you can prove it was returned. If they just started giving refunds without items being returned it would definitely open the flood waters for scam artists and they arent going to do that. Go to walmart and get a refund without the merchandise and see if you leave with any cash. Its common sence. Its unfortunate that this has happened but you will most probably have to return the item to get a refund thru paypal.
 
Certainly a dishonest seller, but that board looks like it could be cleaned up and repaired. I wonder what caused that cap to explode, though?

I agree, this could probably be easily fixed. All that crap just looks bad, you clean it up and the other parts on the board will be fine. Of course, something else is probly wrong with the amp. I wouldn't turn it on without changing all the caps out.

I had a similar happening, where I bought a Pioneer totl integrated amp. Turned out a mouse had been living in it. got the seller to refund the purchase price. I didn't ship it back and I ended up paying for the shipping. I can still fix the amp and it didn't cost him anything out of pocket.

I would suggest doing that, he refunds your purchase price, you keep the unit, you're only out shipping, he is out nothing. I approached my seller, not with anger, but just like he had made a mistake and neither one of us wanted to spend another $40+ on shipping. I may still fix it, or keep it for parts.
 
I have been been very polite to the seller (so far) considering that I usually approach this sort of thing with blunt force trauma:banana: I have responded to his generous offer :thumbsdn: but have as yet not heard back. The Saga continues
 
Did you pay by Pay Pal? I have had pretty good luck with E-bay especially since I learned to only pay with Pay Pal. I got my money back a couple of times from pay pal when the seller was obviously a rip off. Yes, e-bay is starting to get a lot of shady people ,but still not a bad place, The big problem with e-bay today is, it's not just an auction to the highest bidder any more. They have all these buy it now deals and e-bay stores,also the e-bay people made there millions and don't care as much as they use to. If you live by populated cities, craigslist is pretty cool. You can deal with people direct,cash and carry.
 
Agreed with the members, DON'T SEND ITEM BACK! This creates a second set of problems because now he has your money AND your receiver. I would take the refund or adjustment he is offering and call it a day. Then slam him in the feedback. Since a seller can no longer negative feedback a buyer, you are in the clear.
