Hot Dogs

Last week I bought a package of Feltman's Hot Dogs, I bought the ones that weren't natural casing, thought I'd give them a try after reading the reviews and hype.

We did not like the flavor at all. Yuck! We only had 1 each, I ate half, that was it, and later decided to toss the rest of the package in the trash, they were that lousy.

I even jokingly remarked that Bar-S were even better.

What a random thread to see in my feed! :)

I actually like mine the same as the OP's, except I prefer spicy brown or dijon mustard over standard yellow. Depending on my mood, I may sub the coleslaw with some cheddar.

In addition to chili-cheese or chili-slaw dogs being the top picks, I'd have to throw in Chicago-style to round out my top 3.

If you`ve never tried one, you might want to indulge yourself in an Italian hot dog. It`s a gastronomic treat that eats like a full meal, (combined with a trip to Jiffy Lube :)). And no, there is no graceful way to eat them....

Seems sort of like a cross between a Chicago-style Italian beef sandwich and a Primanti Bros. sandwich, but in hot dog form.

Living on the upper left coast, my options for getting ahold of one are most likely DIY or a plane ticket...

My two favorites are a chili dog with shredded cheddar or a plain dog with relish and mustard. Has to be Plochmans mustard.

I pretty much like anything on a dog though. I've had them so many ways and I can only think of a couple I didn't like.

Hah! Someone earlier mentioned a Chicago dog, and I agree, especially those sport peppers to make it pop! Of course I also miss Portillos Combo(Italian Beef with an Italian Sausage in same bun) sandwiches, when a Hot Dog just won't do!

We just returned from visiting CT, where we retired from 3 years ago. Because we can't find a decent hot dog here in NC, I brought back a 5# bag of Hummels Natural Casing XL dogs, which were always tasty! If I'm lucky, 30 dogs will last till Christmas!!

Just discovered this thread. Here in RI we have the “New York System” wiener. Described here and has nothing to do with NY: https://www.newenglandhistoricalsociety.com/rhode-island-food-tradition-new-york-system-wiener/

No one eats just one, similar I guess to what Poultrygiest described on one of the earlier pages.

I prefer raw onions and pickle jalapeño peppers on the dogs I make myself along with, apologies, ketchup.

New York System. We used to call them "gaggers", actually "Gaggiz' "

Sitting here this morning and thought about how French's is my favorite mustard. That led to me thinking of mustard on my hot dogs. So my fav. hot dog is chili dogs dressed with mustard, onion, homemade chili(spicy) and cole slaw. Whats your favorite and yes i know many do not like Hot dogs!
I like the Costco Hot Dogs , the foot longs , boiled with Ba Tampte deli mustard and kraut . Costco sells the dogs but not the foot long rolls , I have to search for the rolls.

My latest tubesteak experiment was to take some FAT jumbo-sized dogs, slit them long ways down the middle, and insert strips of Cheddar cheese into the slit. Then, I took some large Jalapeno peppers, cut the ends off, slit them down the long side, and cored them out. Wrapped the Jalapenos around the dogs (like little jackets), then wrapped that whole deal in thick-cut bacon, secured everything with toothpicks, put them on a sheet pan into a 350 degree oven until cooked through. Served on a good-size, lightly-toasted sub roll with mustard and a mix of mayo & Sriracha just for good measure.
My Dominican neighbor (also a great cook) took a couple bites, and said "Man, you gotta SELL these things !"

Pix will be supplied next time I make them....
