How did we survive???

IPAdave, Bill S:

Still can get them, still just as dangerous:

(Well, to the dirt...haven't seen a darn thing yet...)

Years ago, I had a classmate who's dad had a heck of a Lionel setup. With a ZW. You could find a short in the wiring by just turning up the power and following the smoke smell.

Then there were hot chassis electronics..

Anyone remember the Vac-u-Form?

Essentially a hot-plate molding machine. In seconds it heats up a chamber hot enough melt steel. You put a mold (or any household object you wanted to sacrifice), into the chamber, put a little pice of plastic they give you over the top of it and close the chamber. Seconds later you've got a mold of your dad's watch.

Never had one but my friend did. We just used the supplied molds. Guess he wasn't a modder?

So you can buy atv's at any Bass Pro/Cabelas. or any outdoor place.
So they did make it forward to today.

Not 3 wheelers, which were incredibly dangerous based on the number of riders I've had to scrape off the pavement.

Late to post, but yes, they were banned due to injuries.

IfI remember right SNL did a skit about lawn darts

I had one of these that I bought in 1985 or 1986. I never got hurt on it but did roll it over a big hill one time. Luckily I got off before it went very far. I think it actually handled better than a 4 wheeler unless you were riding across a steep hill and then it could be tricky. It was fun but it wasn't a dirt bike by a long shot.

We used to make spoke guns. We took a bicycle spoke off of the rim, screwed the nut partially back on, broke some wooden match heads off inside of the nut, broke some pencil lead off in the end of it and then held a lit match underneath it until it fired. None of us ever got hurt.

I had a friend who worked at a Honda dealer and when the first 350 3-wheeler came in he said come get this thing. It was good, sick fun.

Kawasaki Tecate 250cc 2stroke..
I raced it at a local motocross track.. and put the stock balloon tires back on for regular outings with friends.. we always seemed to find blackwater..
2 or 3 hours of riding, 6 or 7 hours cleaning..
It hurt, real bad, several times.. damn I miss it..!!

The drawback was that one of the main ingredients in Super Elastic Bubble Plastic was ethyl acetate, a solvent used in nail polish remover. Combine that with polyvinyl acetate, the other primary component, and kids were exposed to some serious health risks if they happened to inhale too much while inflating their plastic bubbles.

These had some serious snort to them. At 50 feet they were traveling at the speed of sound, and still half full of water. Mine went right on through the drywall and out the other side, no problem. Outside, what goes up must come down.
A shot to the side of the head? Dead.
