How do you buy a Magnepan?

I decided to pull the trigger on a pair of Magnepan LRS. Put in an "online purchase request" on their site on June 27 and never heard back other than an automated form email. Called the next day to inquire, phones went to voicemail. Called again today, phone goes to voicemail that says to call another extension to order a pair of LRS. Called that extension, went to voicemail.

I do not have a local dealer. Am I out of luck?

Magnepan is usually quite good about answering the phone. Perhaps they are off for July 4b today. They do not usually respond to email.

My experience...
I filled out the on-line form on May 4th.
I received an email the next day to call Magnepan and finalize my LRS order.
I called and talked to Eric. $650 plus $65 shipping.
Was told 10 to 12 weeks until they ship.
I'm expecting them to be billed to my credit card and ship between 14Jul and 28Jul unless Covid slowed them down.

I pretty excited...
When they ship, I'll be listing my SMGa's on CL.
I think it will be a nice upgrade.

Update...
I was thinking about Micah's experience...

Back in November I tried to reach out to Magnepan to buy some of their dark gray grill cloth. I called the number, got voice mail, left message and no response.
It took 2 weeks until I got through. It turns out Eric was on vacation, and when he came back he had to work his way through all his voicemails.

Appearently, Magnepan is a small company and Eric handles the direct sales and shop scheduling. Give it another try on the 6th or 7th and I bet you reach him. Your experience when you reach him will be a positive one.

Btw... If you are purchasing a set of LRS's, he'll ask you about the amp that you plan to drive them with. His concern is the LRS require a high current amp to perform well. I'm pulling my Maggies with a Carver TFM-25, he said my amp should work well withe the LRS.

Heard back from them today. They were very nice, and my order is in. Expected in approx. 14 weeks :(
I assume they are swamped right now.
Yes, One of the best speakers in the world, 30.7 is still new, the LRS has been an excellent seller since introduction and there are all the other speakers they make that folks want to buy. Looks like the wait is a month longer since orders early in the year. Their operation isn't the kind that has temp workers. Folks need to be well trained to make the products correctly.

What is 14 weeks when you ill be thrilled and enjoying these speakers for years and years?

It seems to me that Magnepan is still living in the 70's. That's my one grief with the company. They seem to rely heavily on land lines and snail mail.

When we get away from the personal choice I am afraid all will be lost, especially with this social distancing we are living thru. Pretty soon we won't know how to speak as everyone just texts.

Yes, that personal, friendly touch just sucks, doesn't it?

:bigok:

Well said.

Before Covid19 and even before the introduction of the LRS, I stopped at Magnepan's facilty to order up some items for my MMGs and 1.6QRs. At that specific time there was a total of 8 people in the entire place. They were most gracious and even gave me an impromptu tour of the place and a t-shirt to boot. Magnepan is NOT a huge company and yet they supply the entire planet with their products and continue to service/repair their older items sold, in addition they also make parts available for us DIYers. So to hear people whine about lead times on their orders or that they are behind the times because they still use the phone or Pony Express is just irritating. Stop chanting the 21st century narrsasistic Me, Me, Me, I, I, I, now, now, now theme song and grow some patience.
If you don't like it you're certainly welcome to shop elsewhere.
Ever think perhaps these older methods of communication help to weed out the bullshit?

I ordered my LRS's on May 4th. Today I sent an email requesting status and was told the factory is working on April orders. I'm guessing Covid has them around 2 to 4 weeks behind schedule. Disappointing but understandable.
