How eclectic is your music collection?

This is not limited to format. It probably should not include stuff that we listened to way back when. For example, I still have some Grand Funk albums that haven't seen action for years. Just stuff that's in your rotation or in your cue.

For starters I'll list the Clash and the Pixies; Bach, Mussorgsky, and Mozart; Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk; Johnny Cash, Junior Brown, Peter Tosh, Stevie Wonder, Leo Kottke, Adrian Legg, Leonard Cohen, Tomita, Miles Davis, Kieth Jarrett, Neil Young, the Von Bondies, John Lee Hooker, The Nylons, The Soul Stirrers, ZZ Top, Bruce Springsteen, Paco DeLucia, John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola (together), Leon Redbone, Muse, Tom Waits, Jorma Koukonen and of course Ben Harper, as a representative sampling.

Oh yeah, I can't forget the original acoustic stuff that my son and his friend are putting together for the local Rock for Hope.

I pretty much have every genre of music in my collection, and I play one when the mood suites me. One day it might be Chopin, then I'll slam in Marilyn Manson after a couple of hours. Whatever turns my crank, eh? :D
 
I too pretty much cover all the bases. Just about the only thing I dont care to listen to is the modern country type stuff on the radio.

D-ray, I'm also a big Ben Harper fan.

No Grand Funk? They have a record that was produced by Zappa (he plays on one cut) that I still play and really like it. Titled "Good Singin' Good Playin'.
There are some guys here that blow me a way with their eclectic collections. Pmsummer leads the pack, I think, and with the cool pics of his music playing he gets my vote as king of the hill.
I won't get too detailed but my collection, and tastes, vary a bit. Psychedelic rock, of the Garage, Classic, and Shoegazer styles are played a bunch. Love Twangy Surf music, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Space Rock. Roots Country (Not the disgusting pop-country fecal matter), any good rock n roll as long the music carries the tune as opposed to some pop vocalist. Punk, but they have to have some redeeming music content, not just angst. I have to admit a soft spot for some catchy pop music, like Marshall Crenshaw, Rank and File, Nick Lowe, XTC, Oingo Boingo, and the like.
 
I've always had eclectic tastes in music, and my music collection reflects it. Everything from heavy metal to classical to offbeat things like Word Jazz, Pakistani and Afghan traditional music (Yes, they had music before the Taleban!), Haitian Voodoo chants, Korean Royal Music (rarely in the mood for that, though) and Mongolian fusion featuring throat singing. About the only genre un-represented is Rap, except for one Eminem "hits" compilation on CD.

I'm still looking --so far in vain-- for something I used to own as a kid on a seven-inch 45-rpm, though, entitled "Music to Smoke Bananas By". :smoke:
 
my musical tastes mostly know no bounds. if you had asked me in high school, i couldn't be bothered if it wasn't a twin axe attack of heavy metal or Rush. Rush has always been a constant.

now that i've matured (?), i know what i like but don't know till i've heard it. recently i discovered i like the Ink Spots but have lots of blues, jazz, folk, swing, big band, classical, rock and country. there is only 1 rap album in my collection, Sugar Hill Gang's Rappers Delight. I did not purchase this, it was a birthday gift from my Aunt back in the day.

i was watching HD Net on the TV last year sometime and i watched a live show of a group named Moe, i like their brand of funky, blues, jazz rock as well. I need to get some of that on CD.
 
Ranges from Suffocation and Cannibal Corpse to Mahler and Mussorgksy, Kraftwerk to Zappa, Johnny Cash to DJ Shadow.... about everything you can imagine and then some.
 
My collection is absolutely eclectic. Everything from "Johnny Mathis" to "The Misfits" and although I lean more towards Jazz and Classic Rock I will absolutely listen to anything.. well.. almost anything. Even though I have some opera in my collection it is VERY rare when they find the turntable.
 
Listing the genres, let alone examples, from my collection would make for a long list. So far, no one has mentioned reggae, country, any African music, 20th (and 21st!) century classical, chant, prog metal, or funk - all of which gets played here from time to time. Eclectic is good! :thmbsp:

The list goes on and on, and this is stuff that I listen to on a regular basis.

I need to add Daft Punk and Pendulum to that list, too......
 
I have a feeling everyone here is pretty eclectic. Let's see here.....Elton John, Pantera, Led Zeppelin, Beethoven, Aesop Rock, Beck, Johnny Cash....the list goes on..............but I would have to say I am partial to rock from the 60's to the mid nineties.....

I've been actively looking for good music (and bad) for about 25 years and have ended up with about 3000 titles of stuff from just about every genre.
Besides the usual pop/rock/hip hop/ blues/jazz/classical/folk, I particularly like urban African music of the 70's: Fela Kuti, Thomas Mapfumo, Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens, King Sunny Ade, Chief Stephan Osita Osadebe.
I also like Jamaican music, but prefer the earlier rock steady to the later reggae. (But since I quit smoking pot ten years ago, I listen to this stuff less.)

So far, I cannot get into country (I do have two Willie Nelson albums and two Dwight Yokum albums though). Nor can I get into opera or any cock-rock/hairbands.:rockon::cry:
