How eclectic is your music collection?

Mostly pre-80's rock and jazz with some blues and pop, no classical although I have a storage closet full of classical vinyl for when I'm ready to listen. Recently acquired/played recently Pearls Before Swine, Branford Marsalis, Chet Atkins, Deodato, Rory Gallagher, Art Tatum, Michael Nesmith. :music:
 
Oh wow... Of ocurse the usual rock stuff, audiophile stuff, traditional jazz, electronic jazz/fusion, opera, rare blues albums... and the usual 70/80/90's pop (Zep, Rush, Stones, Big Country, Yello, Thomas Dolby, Floyd....).

My 2 favorite artist are, George Jones and Jimi Hendrix. I like purty everything in between too.
 
Some genres I have ventured in to: progressive rock, psychedelic, folk, avant-garde, indie, metal (mostly progressive and "post-metal"), post-rock, shoegaze/dream pop, jazz of all types, classical (need more), world music, "classic rock" - never really liked that term though, krautrock, spacey stuff, electronic, ambient, and some more I'm forgetting. At least 50% of my collection is progressive rock, yes I'm a nerd ;)

I wish KC was mainstream. :P

Besides their 80s material, most of their albums took me a bit to get into, I can't even imagine what mainstream audiences would think of Islands (probably zzzz, unfortunately) or Larks' Tounges in Aspic (probably wtf). Their more recent albums are pretty heavy/metal, but still complex and difficult to digest.
 
I mostly listen to 70s and 80s music. However, my music collection is quite eclectic due to my facsination with rare and early CDs. So I have a little bit of everything from Eugene Ormandy/Philadelphia Orchestra to Kitaro, and from Elvis to Alicia Keys. On top of that, I grew up on 70s and 80s Hong Kong pop music, which resulted in a separate music collection that totaled about 700 CDs (if not more).

Un-opened Klavier (record producer) recordings from the mid 80's. I'm not sure how many people WANT to listen to recorder music??? Why I picked them up, I dont know....
One of the "head shop" records, you know, the ones that had 4 different covers of odd crappy "art" (one looks like a purple tumor??)
Tons of "cutouts" and unknowns, bought when Tower Records had massive sales of demo records.
I need to go in the garage and see what else I got..................
 
I've got classical to techno, and some experimental, and all the old fail safe rock and roll.. not to mention metal, and comedy... and lots of other stuff thrown in... so yep, I'm one extreme to the other... but my favorites to listen to are techno..

Yeah, polyrhythms can be tough, especially for those who have not been overly exposed to free-form styling with very odd time signatures. If you like KC, look up a band called UK. Nearly the same type of sound/feel of KC's midlife music (Beat, Discpline, etc). As a drimmer/percussionist, Bill Bruford was one of the guys i'd try to 'understand' and emulate. Met him a few times, nice guy and of course extremely talented. Bill has a few albums on his own, the older stuff is nice and more normal percussion time signature (per se) whereas his newer stuff is VERY odd. Can't seem to get into the newer Bruford albums.

If you are into percussion and unusual stuff, Terry Bozio is also a master percussionist/drummer. Very creative and innovative.

I've heard of UK and maybe a song or two some time ago, but I haven't bought anything yet. I'll keep looking though, thanks for the recommendation

I played Guitar Shop for my son and he was amazed.Always one of my favorites.
 
My music collection is probably as eclectic as it gets. I have almost every genre ranging from pipe organ at one end of the spectrum to gangsta rap/hip-hop at the other.
