How Good is a Transcriptor Hydraulic Really?

I know they look amazing but really how good is a Transcriptor Hydraulic turntable?

Are they worth the silly prices they command?

Thanks

If you want a Transcriptor Hydraulic turntable, seek out the marble based ones, though very rare, and choose the arm carefully.

They will sound different than an LP12 for a number of reasons, the plinth on the Linn is not its' best feature.

I restored one for a customer a couple of years ago and was not impressed with the unit's performance at all...the VPI Traveler easily eclipses the Hydraulic in sound quality and ease of use...

I also really hate having silicone fluid anywhere near my stuff, the substance seems to get on everything....one reason I keep putting off fitting a Well Tempered Arm to my Micro Seki BL-51 is that nasty gunk....

The Hydraulics, either from Transcriptors or Michell, are just so cool looking, though, but if I wanted a table that looked like that I'd look for an Oracle Delphi...or at a much higher performance level, one of the Basis turntables...or if you like the hypnotic effect of the chingaderas rotating around the platter, a Michell Gyro....

And, I won't mention that arm....but tempus fugit and the current designs of tonearms are much more in line with the cartridges available today....

.

A tip: If you ever need anything for a Transcriptors turntable or tonearm, use J.A. Michell in England. Much better to deal with and reliable service.
