Man, you'd be the first guy here that I'd be curious about! Your posts in the jazz thread bring out a lot of envy around here.:music:

I'm not sure for myself. I guess I'm in that $1001-$5000 category. I don't buy a ton of new vinyl. I'll have to think about it.
 
I've bought approximately 150 lp's since joining Ak at an average $$ of roughly 10$ apiece and that doesn't include the tt or the pre. A real happy camper here and the wife appreciates it also.
 
If I only estimate the money spent on the current collection and don't take into account music from the past that is gone forever...

...I hope I'm still only in the 10K to 20K range.

I just recently added about 1000 in a bulk deal I gave $75 for, but many have been at retail price through the years.
 
While I've been buying LPs since 1970, I bought the vast majority after CDs came out and people were dumping LPs. From that point forward I'd usually get them for $1 or so, with some exceptions. So guesstimating, for ~3000 Lps between 5 and 10k.

I keep track of everything I buy so I know exactly how much I have spent.

Since November 2012

528 records (45s included, new and used) - $615.78 (including tax)
371 cassettes (new and used) - $81.49 (including tax)
29 VHS (all used) - $11.43 (including tax)

I don't keep track of CDs because I rarely buy them but this is what I have bought in that same time period.
3 CDs - $45-50ish (price is high because of the Tal Wilkenfeld CD I won on ebay)

99% of this stuff was bought between November 2012 and May of 2013. I've only spent a total of 82.12 since then. And most of that has come from flipping a few things.

I'm very frugal when it comes to collecting I tend to save for things I want and then will wait for great deals on anything else. I got lucky and ran into a couple collections last year too. This year with even more dealers in the area (flea market is up from 9 record dealers to 13 dealers) I doubt I'm even going to find any collections unless someone gives me some. I also do a lot of trading with friends which nets me a lot of stuff.
 
I know it's in excess of $20,000. I started collecting around 1962 for myself. The thing is, I've been buying records for the last 17 years to sell online, at record shows and flea markets. I have sold a few thousand records over that time. I'm hoping I'm in the plus column.
 
Sheesh. Entire life? Prob 5 grand, but more than half I've bought have been resold for more than that. I rarely buy new, even as a child I had access to excellent used records in shops.

I have about 1500 LPs. About 200 - 300 I bought new between 1968 and 1990 or so. So that's not quite 2 grand there. The rest were mostly used purchased over the last five years. The bulk of those were between 50 cents and 2 bucks, maybe fifty or so were 5 to 10 bucks. And then perhaps a dozen outright new pressings at up to $20 per. I'd guesstimate around $3000 to $4000 total.
 
Since getting back into audio, only about $150 on vinyl and cassettes. I buy almost all mine at thrift stores and pawn shops. I have only recently bought a couple on ebay as they were albums that locally you just almost never see.
 
Hello everyone! I'm basically new vintage hi fi & record collector, I start collecting 5 years ago but my real passion for vinyl starts when I was 13 year old watching my uncle Frank, he was a Dj back then in Mexico City (70's, 80's), my collection came straight out of Thrift shops & Goodwill stores in my area, I had around 1600 records now, the average price that I paid is $50 cents to $1.00 dlls.
I remember he day when I come across this decent shape Beatles collection was so awesome, well thanks for aloud me to be part of this community!

Compared to the cost of the home, including rennovations, and the money I have sunk into purchase/modification/restoration of cars, my audio habit is cheap.
 
Decades ago i had maybe a hundred or so. But that was then. I haven't bought a record (they were called records then) since '83 when I bought my first CD player. As for how much I can't even remember what one cost.
