How much is a mint pioneer sx-1080 worth?

I saw a mint sx-1080 at this old lady's yardsale. I mean mint, she still had the box, recipt and everything. I picked it up for 300, which seemed reasonable. I was curious, about how much do they go for on the bay?

I'd say you got yourself a really decent deal....usually pristine examples with documentation and the original box sell for much higher on Ebay. I'd say you got a quite a deal for your coin. Post pictures, please!

I don't think there is a silver front that is as nice as the SX Pioneers have. Congrats, she looks real clean. How does she sound?:music:

Wow - that looks surprisingly identical to one that just sold for $341.52 on e-bay.
And the winning bidder was "thealsurber." What an amazing coincidence!

Somebody is off to an auspicious start.

Looks like on "the Bay" they go for about .................... $341.52! (plus shipping of course)

THE ONLY BLEMISH IS A SCRATCH AND ATTEMPTED REPAIR ON THE TOP OF THE FACEPLATE ( RECOMMEND A CLEAR COAT TOCH UP)

Clear coat touch up, huh? :scratch2::wtf::lurk:

Yeah, it is the same one. It's actually a really stupid story. I told my roommate to not bid more than 300 on eBay for that one, and was at work when the bid ended, but for what ever reason he went up to 340. Maybe he's jealous?
Anyway, I thought that I was kinda gypped and embarrassed and wondered what they went for and made that stupid ass story so I didn't look like some idiot who didn't know approx (I knew that 200 was cheap, and 500 too much) they were worth.

well at least you weren't here on a fishing mission for pricing which is really despised here on AK !!!!!!! looks like you got yourself nice receiver there welcome aboard enjoy the company and fill out your vintage setup with some sources

thats right, just be yourself and enjoy that fine receiver, becareful with speaker leads and such as the outputs on that unit are unobtainable.. treat t good and it will treat you good as well

Don't obsess over the price: Have I overpaid for gear? Yes! Have I underpaid for gear? Yes! However, when it comes down to it his hobby is about the music first and the gear a distant second, and contrary to what one might be led to believe sometimes, not about what one has paid at all.

Welcome to AK! :thmbsp:

Hi Al (?). As someone relatively new here, I've found the people to be incredibly welcoming and helpful. I think you'll also be pleased with the AK community. Welcome aboard. It's customary to go over to "Introductions" and introduce yourself.

As far as your SX-1080 - you paid a lot less than when it was new. And it's likely to give you just as much pleasure as it did to whoever bought it new 30 years ago. Congratulations, and enjoy your great receiver. Maybe I'll have one myself some day.

Its easy enough to figure. Go to ebay do an advanced search for completed items only factor in location, feedback and just the oddball auction and there you have it.

Owned!

What was really the point to this nonsense? :wtf:

First of all, paying prime, market value of $300 at a YARDSALE surely would feel like getting ripped off since most things sell usually for a few dollars or sometimes about 25% of market. If you're going to fabricate a story that would at least hold some water, use a craigslist story or something.

Secondly, the first pic posted clearly shows it's NOT in mint condition from the sanding job someone attempted on the top faceplate. Also, posting an exact duplicate pic of a recent eBay sale is a dead give away to your yardsale 'story'. At least have the forethought to snap a different one rather than one that comes up in a simple search by anyone who tries.

Thirdly, you gave your 'roommate' access to your ebay account with the instruction of bidding for you and he overspent? Not a real smart thing to do and why would he be jealous? Jealous of what?

Finally, now you really come out and say you knew all along the average market values ($200 cheap, and $500 too much).

I'm still wondering what the point to this mess was........??:smoke::scratch2::smoke:
