How to clean stylus brush?

There are lots of threads about stylus brushes and how to use them to clean the stylus.

But how do you clean the stylus brush?

Swish it around in a thimbleful of isopropyl rubbing alcohol 70%. :)

It really depends on which stylus brush.

The stiff brushes that allow the diamond to drop into the bristles like the Discwasher SC-1 or 2, just wipe on your jeans as stated. I believe these will die if subjected to alcohol

The long hair brushes as supplied by some cartridge manufacturers, seems a few different ways to clean em. I'd probably just do the tips in a mild dishwashing liquid and let dry. The alcohol, don't know if it has an effect on the glue.

The toothbrush style, again soap and water.

These latter two brushes do show the dirt which the stiff bristle brushes don't as the DW and the whatever brand now available are black bristles, not white.

I use the long-hair for general cleaning occasionally and the stiff bristles for daily cleaning. I need the diamond clean, don't care as much about the body.

I don't use those dipping goops, fancy chemical erasers and such. Kicking it old school.

Thank you so much for your comments. That is the kind of brush I use (see image in post #5). I have a hard time imagining it'd be affected by alcohol, though, because the stylus cleaning fluid that came with the brush smells much more aggressive. Exactly like nail polish, actually. Like xylene and toluene type of solvents; the kind that leaves a CD jewel case permanently hazed (although I haven't tried that).

That small black brush, I don't know if it is damaged by alcohol, but there are stories on AK about the glue softening on the discwasher devices with alcohol.

The long haired carbon brushes like Decca and Audioquest are equipped with edges on holders that you are supposed to just flick the brush over to clean them. That's all they ever need. Discwasher short directional nap brushes are supposed to be brushed backwards on cloth. If that's your jeans that's fine, as long as you have not been just changing the oil in your car in those jeans.

The Discwasher stylus brush should not be cleaned with alcohol as far as I know, or it should be very dilute. I have 2 of the brushes here but one of them is useless as the bristles have melted together. I know I didn't do it so I can't say for sure how that happened but I am not the only one who has seen brushes like that. Distilled water should be fine though I've never felt the need to clean it.

I'm another fan of the little carbon-fiber brush that arrives under many brand names. To clean it, I use a fine-bristle toothbrush that's regularly washed. I suppose I could bring the might of Moongel to bear as well. Hmm..
