How to Handle Telemarketers...........

Well I hope you are right. I live in Virginia, and my phone's caller ID has the same company calling me 3-5 times a week. They are for the most part recordings though. And what do you do about the ones that come up unlisted caller. It seems to me that if you are on the list, and the list is available to these marketers, AND they know there is a fine they wouldn't do it right? Every company (regardless of what they are selling etc..) finds a way around the rules somehow. I seem to get more calls than ever since I went on the NO CALL LIST. Why do I have to take further action since I'm already on "the list" Off the point a little. I have no trust in consumer protection agencies. I joined Verizon FIOS and it has been a nightmare. I was downright lied to. Verizon does not care. The Virginia Consumer Affairs agency can't do anything to verizon. Verizon knows it . It's a very bad joke. By the way if a Verizon person comes to your door and promises you all kinds of things, according to Verizon they are NOT RESPONIBLE FOR WHAT THEIR CONTRACTED DOOR TO DOOR SALESPEOPLE TELL YOU!!!!!! Sign the dotted line though and they got you by the ba*ls.

The consumer protection agencies can't do anything if no one tells them there is a problem. They are not going to sit around listening to your phone calls to see if someone calls you illegally. You have to do your part.

What's a FIOS?

You misunderstood. The Va. consumer affairs had nothing to do with the unsolicited calls topic. What I said was when I had a problem with dishonest salesmanship the Va. consumer affairs really can't do anything for you. They acknowledged many complaints with verizon, and even called them on my behalf. They called me back and said the problem should now be resolved. I asked them if they had that in writing, and they said YES. I said can I have a copy of it, and they said NO...not allowed...WTF. Anyway verizon did not fix the problem. I have wasted my time calling verizon. I called over 20 times. Each time I did not hang up until the person I was talking to and I were in agreement of the solution. Each time when the next bill showed up NOTHING HAD CHANGED..again WTF. I have given up. I am sending them what was agreed upon. When my 2 year contract is up I am gone. I told each verizon person that. They don't care. They will then file a claim with a collection agency against me. This whole mater is over about $200, and of course a lot of my time, but they will lose a customer for good.

FIOS is a TV,Internet, phone package. Fiber optic service.

Once a credit card telemarketer called a friend of mine...she answered the phone and then said...oh goodness, you want to give me a credit card? Thank you SO much, my husband just left me, I have a pile of bills, etc..." She really piled it on. The telemarketer hung-up.

This same friend also dealt with one caller quickly: "I gotta go, my kitchen is on fire!..."

I like to ask them if they're naked. That usually throws them a bit.

If I'm in a really bad mood, and the phone number is valid and not an 800 number, I get online and sign it up for telemarketing calls.
