So, I want to replace the pre-amp 12ax7 on my Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II but I cant figure out how to get it out of the socket. I don't want to pull too hard afraid I will break something...help!

Just pull upwards while using a gentle sideways circular or rocking motion. Some of the newer sockets (ie Belton) are REALLY tight.

You can always use a thick rubber band to get a better grip on the tubes, just don't squeeze too much.

It's poor design to bury the tubes so deep into the top plate that it's difficult to remove them.

I have the same amp - do like arts says and grab the tube, roll it around in the socket while pulling upwards. The tubes are not that delicate - I have taken mine out several times.

Couldn't resist :) ;)

I come from the era. Had to withdraw hundreds of all sorts tubes: As said, upwards pull, slight rocking motion - and patience! :beerchug:

Good luck.

Drill a hole in the socket from the bottom and pound it out with an awl ... <G>

Not the first to have issues with tube exchange with the Rogue amps. Not sure why they recess them that far - gotta know folk will have issues with the design, especially us habitual rollers. I recessed mine on a custom build but didn't get all crazy like when doing it.

PS - twere me, I'd consider adding some "socket saver" extensions. Pretty easy to find, eh.

sKIZo put up a link to your build, if you got a minute. I looked for it but, I failed.

I've changed dozens of tubes on Rogue Audio amps over the last decade and a half. Never had any real problems. The sockets can be tight the first couple times they're cycled, but nothing that causes any hazard or real difficulty.

I very well may be misinterpreting which tube your replacing. From manual, the preamp tube is specified 12AU7, at center.
