Hpm-Econo Redo, Aka Kpm-10.0

I was actually somewhat surprised how closely the advent and HPM woofers measured. With Keg's typical low powered amps, I bet the bit of boost is nice at lower volumes, but if he ever gets a little more power on tap (with his upcoming project) and turns them up a bit, i bet they respond real well to an acoustic suspension setup. :)

Considering HPM-100's lineage, it makes sense. T/S parameters for L100's 123A(-1,3) woofers tell us "closed box," as well, but there's a power-handling price to using them that way.

I'm not about to call them "misapplied" in their standard "too-small" vented alignment; they did what the designer intended. I've previously observed that Advent seems to have boosted the bass with compensaton in the lowpass of their acoustic suspension designs, sufficiently for them to be a bit "boomy" themselves when used with the recommended boundary reinforcement.... :yes:
 
Orange being the dual 3" ports, yellow being the sealed, I really don't mind this ported version at all.
Looks pretty good to me and my setup, within 2 db even with the slope plus goes deeper then sealed.

And since I'm not running some 100 watt amps or even 50 watt amps I think I'm just fine where I'm at.
(No doubt both the single port and sealed alignments will get there playing around with as well though)

I was fortunate enough to spend a couple hours listening to these KPM-10.0 with Kegman tonight. (After which, he graciously allowed me to buy him dinner and prodigious amounts of beer...) I was impressed. First impression had me thinking they were overly aggressive and bright. However, we changed the music from poorly recorded 80s metal to other more refined and much better recorded Jazz and Rock.. and a slight twist of the HF pot had me really digging these speakers. They really sound great! Nice tight deep bass, liquid mids and crisp highs.. Really, really great.

Yes, I think Kegger has new mains. More punch and substance than either the ADS L880 or Polk 10s he ran before. not that either sounded bad.. they sounded good to great, but these are on a different plateau.
 
I had Dan come back by today, (An bring more beer) as I made some adjustments in the
fact of aiming the woofer cabinets more towards the listening position then turning down
the high freq pots, the results much fuller in the upper bass/lower mids which filled in the
vocals and at the moment no longer have the want/need for further smoothness, there a
tad warmer now which to me sounds really really good.

Andy you should get back by an hear them now, after you left with the tracks you brought
had me wanting them less "aggressive" which the adjustements have achieved.:thmbsp:

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah the adjustments made them sound even better than they did the night before, but I am now convinced that my visit was primarily a ploy to get me there to bring more beer..

While I did enjoy sipping my beer and listening to some great tunes through some truly great speakers, I did cringe :tears: watching the beer I brought disappear at an alarming rate. In fact, it disappeared at a significantly faster rate than I could have possibly drank it and possibly even faster than I could have poured it down the drain... If you want to get invited to the Kegman's house, offer to bring audacious amounts of beer and be willing to sacrifice the vast majority of it for the common good of listening to some great gear. It's worth it, I think... the good news is tonights visit did not cost me dinner too..

Hi All, I stopped by Kegger's yesterday to listen to his KPM-100 econowaves. WOW do they would great. The bass is kick ass and clear as a bell....great detail and if needed will pin you to the couch. The mids highly detailed and lush with no hint that the sound is coming from a horn. The highs are crystal clear and even at high volumes did not rash my ears like 99% of all tweeters do. The refinished cabs look stunning as well. I am going to go with that same finish on my ESS EWGs...thanks Keg. Cheers.
 
The 2 main problems I have with that woofer are the 87db sens, and the waveguide
does not really want to be even crossed < than 1k, more like 2-3k would be preferred.

The sens of the selenium driver is 107, with comp you can get about 99db, I would not
want to use a woofer less then 90db with it so as to keep the dynamics up with the high
output compression driver.
 
Bring him lots of beer and he'll let you listen to his.. at least until the beer runs out.. figure 6 maybe 7 songs per six pack. Kinda like a quarter car wash...
 
Pretty cool, Kegger. :thmbsp: I bet some JBL L26s would work pretty good too, if the tweets were gone anyways. Mine work fine though, so I'm a bit leery of chopping them up. ;)
 
Hey Spaceman. Squidward is making EWGs out of L26s. Might be good to keep tabs on his project before you hack up yours. Cheers.
 
L26's converted into EWG, been there done that see thread! Moving onto a KLH Model 23 EWG conversion! kfa888 I bet those KEF's would somehow work, they are certainly efficient enough! Just could use a little more top end but at the level you'll probably play at I bet the Seleniums 210's would be fine! Amazon had the 220Ti's for $29!
