I got a Playtape machine for Christmas in the 60's. My dad worked for Allstate, which was owned by Sears, and Sears sold Playtape machines. Tapes generally had 4 songs on 2 tracks. My mom would buy tapes and I learned about a lot of artists I never would have known if it wasn't for Playtape! The technology was later sold by Smith Corona as an office voice recorder.

I also have an even smaller endless loop tape player. Called a Pocket Rocker, it's about the size of a Walkman, the tapes are the length and width of a postage stamp and have 2 songs on them. When my daughter was younger, she would carry this around while she did her chores. She only listened to one tape, so I have fond memories of La Bamba and Tequila playing endlessly on this terrible sounding little machine.

Both new to me, those are pretty cool - Now Tequila I could listen to over and over if it was the original Hombres. Legendary Sax lines on that.

Wow! Saw this old thread. I got one of these playtape machines for my 12th birthday. I don't remember how many tapes I had. I had the Kinks, which had You Really Got Me, Till The End Of The Day, All Day And All Of The Night, and Holiday In Waikiki. But my favorite was Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention, which had Are You Hung UP?, Concentration Moon, Idiot Bastard Son, and Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance. My mother was very concerned about the titles, so my stepdad listened to it before letting me have it. His comment was the music sounded stupid, but it wouldn't hurt me to listen to it. Little did he know I would become a hard core Frank Zappa fan.
