I hate today's washing machines

As a heavy coffee consumer for many years, I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I had no idea how much the grinder mattered until I got a real one. Bought a new Gaggia as a treat when we moved to replace my 20 year old model, a few weeks after that I bought a Mahlkonig grinder, and holy crap the look on my face for a few days lol. Completely different beverage with the proper grinder, remarkably better taste and crema I could never generate on the Gaggia very well was suddenly thick; I'm totally spoiled now lol.

Also FWIW my 20 year old Gaggia Classic is a better machine than my new Classic is. Heats up far quicker, and doesn't get regularly jammed by fines, requiring half disassembly of the machine like the new one does lol. Had the old one in back in service after replacing the portafilter gasket and thermostat just in case, and the new model in the closet for half a year last time it jammed up; just took it apart again last week and set it up in the kitchen. Not because it's better, but because it's red lol.

When it stopped working the first time under warranty, the guy on the end of the phone asked me if I was ok trying to take it apart before I shipped it back to Italy lol. I opted to take it apart and fix it myself, but the design isn't very robust IMO and it will clog again in a few months... My game changer on the right.

Ok, very interesting !
But isn`t this thread is about "washing machines" ? Yes/No ?

What about bed clothes (sheets, pillow cases) and towels/wash cloths ?
Exactly. I live in a nudist city.* And each of us—in office buildings, on the subways and buses, at sporting events, restaurants, rodeos, and weddings—carries a towel around on which to sit. It’s just common courtesy. Eventually, these towels must be washed.

*EDIT: NOT TRUE.

I worked for Amana, Maytag, and Whirlpool for 15 years and have owned or tested multiple washers and dryers from those brands. Now that we're retired and it's only the wife and me at home, we own a Miele front load washer and heat-pump dryer. They know how to build front loaders right.

Do whatever works for you. I fix everything regardless of how inexpensive or expensive it is. Our last dishwasher was an inexpensive Chinese made one that needed a few things over its 8 year life, but nothing I considered out of the ordinary. We upgraded to a Series 6 Bosch, made in Germany, that cost 4.5 times the cost of the cheapy. I bet it doesn't last 4.5 times as long, but it's a much better made product all in all.

I've totally given up on dishwashers * FOREVER * - It is hopeless.
The last one I bought 15+ years ago, I just made sure it had racks on the inside that 'never rust out'. I knew it would break down. We just properly planned on the las tone and now we just use it to store dishes & glassware. Works good for that.

TOTALLY gave up on computer printers too, at least I did for over 20 years. Then I broke down and just bought another one, an Epson, it's been 'outstanding' - I was 'so happy'... until it crashed out (still copies) but now the digital screen went black. Just rotten Bad Luck with printers too. Don't know what it is??? Printer Voodoo or something. I quit on printers, again - until the next time I guess, and new one will be junk & break down too. Don't even use them all hat much. :dunno: Actually, the Epson I originally bought was broken brand new. I mean - out of control broke. Epson did send me a new one, and it lasted for a couple years - used it but only about 25% as much as most folks use them. What's a guy to do??? They are ALL junk.

I stopped buying inkjet printers, regardless of the type and model. I just use a monochrome laser printer, and buy new cartridges online.

If I wanted color, it would be a color laser printer.

Absolutely, but I’m easily sidetracked by the mention of coffee lol

My washing machine is new, soulless, and has functions that nobody has ever used in history, such as downloading washing cycles.

The coffee was way more interesting.

Okay. How about which washing machine gets out coffee stains?
Good question, it can be difficult.

Today my daughter had a nosebleed on her bright white sheets. Quick action with the peroxide, then into my soulless yet capable machine, and they are as bright white as ever.

Coffee is harder than blood imo, somewhat permanent if it sets in cotton.

I don't drink cofee because it's too energizing for me. I preffer cacoa + milk.
As for the washing machine, I try to fool an "Whripool" with that 6th sense - does it need to make sense 6 times?, in order to use more water when rinsing. It's harder then on the "L.G."... I thought "L.G." direct drives was a crap when using it, but this is more crap. Turn on the program, press cold water, pause, comute to spining, because rinse + spining does it 2 times..., pause, because in order to start the spin you need to press the function button 3 times... oh, and not forget to press a lower spining revolution per minute (800 in stad of 1200). The L.E.D. display of the spining is so small and when rotating the knob, you can see good where it is only if you look at an 80-100 ° angle... They simply desing it, but they don't test it proprely.

I just turn the knob on the speed queen and walk away ! lol

I guess it's been too long since I've looked at washers\dryers - I have two old top loaders.
I looked at that brand listed above (my elderly mother sort of needs a new front loader) and I'm astounded at the prices.
I don't think I can post prices here, so google yourself.
Wow, just wow. One washer (the very cheapest one) costs more than both my washer and dryer (by a large amount) cost about 15 years ago. The higher priced ones (these are residential?) are so expensive, I'd have to take out a loan to buy JUST ONE. I guess I'm woefully out of touch on this sort of thing.
"Miele front load washer"

Yeah Miele is mostly expensive stuff.

We were in Japan last month, separate washers and dryers no longer exist there. Front loading combo washer/dryer is what ya get; trying to operate it the first time with the Japanese controls was a treat lol.

I gave these machines a failing grade even though they cleaned just fine because they take f o r e v e r to do the laundry, and it comes out quite wrinkly. Neat tech though, and handy for small spaces.

Miele's a pretty high-end brand, though, and it's German. You'd shop it against Bosch, not GE or Whirlpool. If you're open to open-box and returns to save a few hundred, try a Best Buy outlet or scratch-n-dent of whatever Lowe's Depot-type store you're partial to.
