I now own a router

I couldnt imaging living without routers. I have a bunch from 3hp to little trim routers. Just depends on what needs to be done. The 3hp plunge routers swinging a large panel bit can be quite intimidating. Especially freehand work. Sometimes it is the most efficient. Other times its easy to make an quickie table for specific uses with a chunk of mdf and a straight board for a fence. Then there are times when only hand tools will do. Like making dovetails. Machine cut dovetails look so ... machine cut.

Sadly, my hand-cut dovetails look so... hand cut. Need to work on that.

Until then, I need to get my PC 7518 (3+ HP) and my Porter Cable dovetail jig together to party.

(I wish they made a D-handle with switch that would fit that router.)

Depending on how many dovetails per board and how many projects you plan to run, you might find that big PC a little heavy after a while. I tried a D-handle Makita ( I really thought it would be better!) with my Leigh 24'' Super Jig and did not like it at all.

Sooner than later I'm going to retire from the daytime job. I've been using the hell out of the mill in the maintenance machine shop at work for "home projects" ..

Same here. I just got tired of always having to be at work or go back in on the weekend to run projects. Then I picked up an old Korean copy of a Bridgeport and never looked back. Let the chips fly in my own shop. Nothing says comfort like milling in your pyjamas

hey I used the router today I needed to make some notches for the little tensioners on an indoor pet gate

worked really good

I just free handed and it didnt try to get away from me

I did learn about the lock down though because when I would lift it up it would start coming apart and the roll pin would get out of the slot

so I locked it down
then I noticed the bare wires for the light

and the cracking power cord aint lookin so good

As long as there isn't any bare copper showing, some shrink tape or liquid tape should patch those up for many more years of use.
Nice no-frills old school router there.
