No. Not really. They will pop them every time you power up the amp without a dim bulb.Almost time bombed your amp
That was my experience with the FRN's in this app.

Great info thanks...are the metal film Vishays fused? The cautionary note on the print may have sent me to the world of over think.No. Not really. They will pop them every time you power up the amp without a dim bulb.

When they burn open ...are the metal film Vishays fused?
No there not " fused" per say..My order has been placed. 4 big caps, 2 resistors and some braid. I'll certainly update the thread with my progress.

Now that you're committed to the big ass recap I wanted to share my burning questions beforehand. Notice where your idle bias trim pots are at now. Also notice where your meter board trim pots are at.

If everyone reading this pitched in ten bucks we could get him an MX-10000 centennial edition, and a beer. Just sayin. Thanks Avionic. Ive been reading your posts in this sub forum for years and believe it or not I owe some of my being able to pull this off to you. I feels like I owe you a beer or something.
Ive notice 2 small but odd side effects of recapping the amp. First off, it is quieter in total volume with the same inputs. I had to move the level controls from 10 to 6 to get roughly the same output levels. This is something on the order of 3-4 db gain. I cant explain it, I would have thought that it would have gone louder..
Second off I can now hear some sort off hiss or whistle when I turn it all the way up with all the inputs hooked up and its turned all the way up with no music playing. Its faint but it wasn't there before, that I remember.
Other than that I am happy. The clarity and punch is there.
Is your pre-amp chassis grounded? Could cause some soundgasms.
Looks like it took 40 years for many of us to understand the build and sound quality they did in that era, minus the sonybond glue. The value of these has become so high now I've been looking at other preamp brands regretfully.Yamaha Is really under appreciated in hifi for some reason.
By the looks of the photo, the author of this thread bought from the good re-cap seller on Fbay. Not the other hacks. I bought the same sellers re-cap kit for the PRE amp cuz I was too lazy to itemize 76 caps back in the day. The power amp has 28-30 caps so if you're patient with a metric ruler you can do it yourself for around 40 bucks with Nichicons.I'm going to follow this thread with interest as I plan on doing the same thing to my M-65.
I saw that same guy on eBay's M65 recap kit, are you happy with your purchase, or would you rather have just put it all together yourself?

Not to impressed.. A client sent one of those kits with a M-85 to me. The kit was incompleted and only four caps out of 15 or so are going to be used. I usually **** can all the old parts. Blackgates and all.I saw that same guy on eBay's M65 recap kit,

The search bar is on the work bench. Just remove the amps top cover & roll up your sleeves. And observe polarity.
