Me likes the eargasm retroplasm...
I sold a record on ebay. It was an auction, and the buyer took 8 days to pay. When he paid he asks me to not put a receipt or any evidence of a third party in the package, change the return address on the label, and send it to "X" address... ??? huh

This is way too-much ask for a $21 record, and I suspect mail fraud.

I write him back apologizing for losing the record and return his money and cancel the order.

I look him up and he is a power-seller ( 20,000+ sales ) and half of what he sells is records... ok...

When I get back to my ebay page, he has bought 3 more items... I look in messages, and he says " Fine good luck with the negative feedback " ...

I then Block him as a buyer.

Next, I try to contact ebay ( impossible ) and I report his activity.

I then buy two items from him . ( hoping I can flip the script, knowing I'm not "in the right" )

Then he uses another account ( still connected to the same name in paypal ) to buy another item from me before I block this account...

Try to contact ebay again...

I cancel the other order, more negative feedback. I HAD a 100% feedback of 1500+ until this joker just dinged me twice. I can't find a phone number to ebay anymore... AWWW the world is full of nuts.

His last message was this :

" I am going to have to do what I really do not wish to do here. "

WTF does that mean...? you already left negative feedback... now what do I have to worry about...?

2018 crazy topped crazy, with crazy filling...

So I post this here, just in case it is one of you wonderful people.... it's just a misunderstanding. I apologize. Please don't do what you really do not wish to do...

I guess he is flipping the records he bought from you? That would fit with his requests.

While you could ignore his instructions and ship them to his address on PayPal, he might just file a not as described claim and you’d be out return shipping, etc.

So cancelling the order makes sense even though the negative feedback sucks.

yeah... I figured I couldn't win. So I canceled. Then he buys 3 more, and then another from another account. All canceled, all negative feedback.... errrrrr:mad:

Who has the time to do this? Why waste the time with so much malice ?

I guess you cut into his flipping for no work plan. But it seems like there would be minimal profits to his scheme since he’s paying selling fees as long as your records are going near market pricing.

looks like he is drop shipping for max returns . or something like that .. i used to sell there and had similar but i sent item off but seem to remember putting original address on package too just in case . it seemed like the buyer may have had a large order to fulfil and was sending shipping containers abroad .

i once was asked to send to a small private airfield .had suspicions of course but took some time checking things out and it was just fine in the end .
lots of variables to deal with so gave up for now.

You know what it means. It's the internet age threat of "sending the boys round"

This story is the reason some of us will not touch ebay with a ten foot pole, either for buying or selling. Business relies on trust, and eBay is sadly lacking in that respect. IMO, it is doomed. Each experience like yours is another nail in its coffin. Pity, because if there weren't people like your purchaser around, I'd feel more like buying from you.

Biscuit I'll tell you exactly what he was doing. He's selling on Discogs and having you ship it to the buyer that supposedly purchased it from him. You got paid, after 8 days, should have just shipped it to where he wanted (so it showed he sold it). No biggie, tons of Discog'ers do it. Not sure what the vendetta is afterwards besides the fact you screwed him up on Discogs.

The buyer listed his purchase, and wanted you to ship it straight to his buyer. If it didn't go for what your price was, he would have cancelled.

Sell stuff you don't yet own, or don't buy it. Make everyone else carry his inventory.

Nice work if you can get it.
This^^^

Ernie's right, this guy is selling and auctioning records he hasn't payed for or has in his possession. Hell he doesn't even have to pack and ship it reducing more time and cost.

BTW, your making a mistake selling on eBay when you can sell right here.

You're right on both accounts.
I haven't listed any albums in Bartertown in a long time... I haven't had any success as far as selling goes in BT... but at least I would minimize the coo-coo-birds.

I suspected. But isn't putting a fraudulent return address on a package illegal ?

... and suppose I messed up his order, put the wrong record in the package or something? His buyer contacts him and then he comes after me... what a pain.
I guess if you do this in high volume, it might be worth it... I don't know, maybe I'm dumb, and looking for nefarious means to make money is where a good paying career is...

Well I'm happy he didn't ship and refused. It's a poor practice the buyer is attempting to do and screws the rest of the buying public over by artificially inflating the cost of records, not to mention the dishonesty and questionable integrity of the buyer.

Thanks for opening my eyes to the practice. I'll be sure to ask for a pic of the album with my name on a piece of paper in a photo before buying from Discogs in the future to help stamp out this unscrupulous behavior.

Thanks for sharing buscuithead. You should be able to arrange an Ebay call back to inform them and have the negative feedback removed. I've done this twice in the past without issue.

I think this is icky too... How can you represent an item accurately if it isn't yours? What a world we live in, that we can cook up a scheme like this. It reminds me of the Thomas Jefferson quote "If it neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket what difference is it to me?" ...

Well, maybe it would be a different world if we weren't idle spectators of such things... If someone stood up and said " nope, not right "...
