I Swear-People are so damn Triflin' anymore...

A LOT of the current problems w/American business started when companies became more interested in making MONEY than in making THINGS. When pleasing some pinheaded Wall Street analyst rather than making a product your customers are PROUD of, worhipping the God of Cost Accounting, became the end-all & be-all was when we started losing it. Blame it on Bush, the unions, the Chinamen, whomever you want, but as Pogo said, "We have met the Enemy-An' he is US !"

Hate to say it Sandy, but that's what business is all about these days.
"Things" are merely means to the ends, which is money
Products are evaluated on how much they can make, not what they REALLY do., or if they have any value. How well it'll sell is the first consideration, then how cheaply can we make is is the second. Quality is figured out at somepoint where profit is maximized; not the best, nor the worst, but the most profitable is where it is made.

Yeah, well, its a shame because a lot of us here know it wasn't always like that, & doesn't HAVE to be that way...

It's got to be the Chinese who are at fault here. They're obviously to blame for everything else wrong in American society, from the daily threads that get started about them here.

Americans have trouble being second. Get used to it, the Chinese will be the new super power real soon.

dew.

Sandy you made the fatal mistake -- you told them you were gathering info. Since you didn't indicate that you were going to hand them oodles of money hand over fist for the privilege of using their stuff, they'll wait to see if you're reeeeeeeeally interested enough to call them back.

Come on guys, let's not let this thing get political...I ain't too fond of China either, but this really ain't about them...

The more our economy becomes service driven, and less driven by manufacturing, the worse service seems to get.

:scratch2:

I don't really know what to say Sandy, but customer service just plain sucks these days!! It's rare when you stumble upon a customer oriented company nowadays.

It's called the MBA syndrome, trying to squeeze every last fookeene cent out of a business model. It killed Radio Shack, others will follow.

I was at a retail store this weekend with my wife, and the irritated saleswoman takes my debit card, and asks for my ID.I told her I had the picture on it,and she said that they have to ask for the ID anyway.I go to this store about 3 times a week, and Ive only been asked for my ID one other time-from this same woman. As Im handing it to her,I tell my wife,"The salesperson only asks for an ID if theyre having a really bad day".
Man,did she give me a look.It was totally worth it.

Actually, I kinda like that idea.

Yes, it's a pain in the butt but until they implement a PIN* on these, a picture ID is really the only way to help prevent the use of stolen credit cards Why they don't do this , I don't know. If banks can, why can't they?

* Personal Identification Number, , like they have for bank debit cards

OT: Remember when Rat Shack would ask for your name and stuff?

Yes, I worked there part-time on and off from '68 until 2000. Great school job.

Yes, it was a pain but at one time they jumped all over the workers to try to get as many names as possible. Actually, they didn't sell them, rather they used them to send their monthly flyers' Some people actually complained when they didn't get their catalogs, particularly when the free flashlight or beach ball coupons were in 'em.

But I digress...

When not working for them, I would keep in touch with my store manager buddies. So, when I came into one of their stores and saw they had a new girl on the line, and they asked for my name, I would reply "Only if you marry me."

The look on their faces was priceless. :yikes:

Of course, the manager and I would crack up and let them in on the joke, Believe it or not, none of 'em ever got angry.

Oh well, just an old fart remembering the good old days... back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Good customer service

My mom recently bought a Dyson vacuum and had a question about it so she called the 800 number in the manual. A cheerful HUMAN answered the phone, spook good english and almost instantly answered the question about an attachment that she had! Of course the freakin' thing cost almost 500 dollars so it should come with a maid as well....Not sure if Dyson is an American company though.
