I was digging around for a pair of JVC Wood cone speakers and then i found this!

I've been looking around for a JVC Wood cone speakers in the local market for a while, I couldn't find them, Once i found a pair and it was too expensive for my budget. Then i came across this model looks much similar to the size of JVC woodcone, looks like the woodcone speaker cabinet too. The model is

JVC SP-UX2000RGD

I just like to know if this is another version of the woodcone speaker without the actual woodcone drivers...? Any idea if they sounds alike...? What are your thoughts on this model...?

No not wood cones
But nicely finished with decent sound
Came with a mini system
My buddy was a VP for JVC
He has a couple pair
 
Wood cone speakers look good, and you'd like to think that the wood would (oops) bring a kind of nice warm woodsy sound to them. Doesn't work that way. Breakup modes are ugly, and after listening to a pair, I passed them by, much as I liked the look. I forget what the brand was, since it was a long time ago. Wood is a highly variable material, and trying to get any two drivers to sound the same is a trick.

Atwater Kent used wood veneer cones in some of their 1920s magnetic speakers, others paper cones. I have one of each. Never seen wood cones elsewhere.

if they are anything like mine, for their size they are shockingly good speakers with plenty of bass(again, for their size and proper placement) they have a good full sound to them considering they are 3" full range drivers.

they were shipped with this unit: JVC FS-2000GD

Thanks for this post!!!! i was kind of shocked to be honest to hear the sound of them! who would expect such a big sound from tiny 3 inch speakers?

EUREKA!!!!!

After so many years of search, following a tip given by my good ol' buddy I ventured in to the unknown. He was right, the Wood Cone was there and I immediately bought them. I've been looking for the real thing for years and finally a pair just washed up on my shores. The previous owner unknowingly and ignorantly handed them over to me saying "Don't come crying back if there is no bass...." with a stupid noobie grin I took them home.

Now i am hearing what everybody is talking about this elusive wood cone speakers, It is definitely a something. I tried them on a ultra cheap ebay bought class D amplifier called Lepy LP-A1 and results were astounding. Now took off my lovely meadowlarks and hooked them to the Yamaha AX-397, Switched on the 4 Ohm mode, Damn, these are great. For their size, and there is something about how they sound, It's not that having lowest of the low or having highest of the most accurate highs,

To my ears they sound unique in their own way. Extremely pleasant to listen to for many hours, I just grabbed my favorite tracks and albums now and starting with

"Harold Budd ~ Pavilion of dreams"

Also this marks my long slow search for the wood cone JVC speakers.

She asked me to look at it since it hadn't been used for a long time. Used to belong to her brother and was packed away.

I was surprised at how good it sounded for such small drivers. I could turn it up quite loud and it sounded better than what one would think from it's size.

That looks like a pretty cool system and it is DVD-Audio capable.
 
After few days of listening to my favorite tracks on woodcone i am liking them even more. Vocals are gorgeous and bass is ample, highs are there and it is perfectly good enough for me. I tried them with my yamaha ax-397, sounds pretty great and then borrowed my friends ca-1000 mk1, that's something but i still prefer the ultra cheap lepy amp driving them over the yamahas.

According to my hearing and listening sessions the super cheap class d sounds very pleasing to my ears with jvc woodcone speakers.

Also folks! Does anyone know how sensitive are these speakers? I saw somewhere that they are 82db and that's low. If it's this low sensitive which means harder to drive, this explain the excessive heat of ca-1000 even on class a/b mode.
 
Here's an update folks!!! This is for the future reference of anyone whose looking for the specs of these wood cone speakers. It seems like they are brutally difficult to drive on the spec sheet ( i am not a pro ), it says 81db sensitivity. Damn!!!!

This is my office system running through a Shitt Modi DAC with a 10" subwoofer when I want to crank it up a bit on Friday afternoon. They are such pretty little boxes!

Try some Alpair 10's in the Frugal Horn cabs.

I am enjoying them at the moment. Nothing like crossover-free, direct to amp goodness.

I also have the JVC but ceramic instead of wood (I'm guessing, as they're a tan color driver). They really are nice for what they are.
