I went to pick up a speaker and an amp. Look what I got!

Cornwalls, Kef 105s, and Sony SS-G7s. The Cornwalls and Sonys have 15 inch woofers and the Kef has 12 inch. Kef is Acoustic Suspension, Cornwalls and Sonys are ported. My favourites are the Cornwalls and the Kefs. I'm still getting used to the G7s.
 
Ok if you have Cornies, Gonna be tuff to beat.
Although if your the curious type, try swapping in the EV woofers for shits and giggles.
those cast frame EV's would be an upgrade
In fact I bet even the st350a's would be an upgrade.in the Cornies.
although wouldn't want you to cut anything to make them fit

I don't think I know anyone who is a carpenter except my brother, and he is almost 3000 Km away from here. I wouldn't hesitate asking him though. He loves working with exotic woods too!

I wish you hadn't mentioned the Interface Ds. It has perked my interest. I love how they look too! I'm curious about the design of the innards, and other possibilities.
 
In reality the only thing you have the same as in the D,s is the tweeters.
I don’t think that trying to duplicate them is feasible
 
Yes, I know. But I'm the kind who likes to experiment. When I was 14, I designed and built a set of speakers based on some library books I found, and the best radio shack speakers I could get that applied to my design. They were ugly as sin, but they sounded really good. So much so, my best friend asked me to sell them to him if I ever replaced them. When I did (I got new speakers) I wondered if the new ones sounded any better, but they did look much better. Although I didn't know it at the time, they were Transmission Line speakers.

The main issue I have, is that I really like my Cornwall's as they are. No, they aren't perfect, but they are pretty darned good. Plus, it is a major moving event to even do anything to them.

I'm wondering what a TLS system using the SP15As, the ST350As, and the vented midrange could look like, and how it would sound. It drives me nuts not having a workshop. I had a large workshop in my first two houses. I don't even have a workshop in this house I am in, and I'm not about to move. So if I really want to play, I will need to build a separate workshop from the house. My wife and I are considering that, as she knows I need to tinker, and she doesn't want that in our living space. It is just a question of when.

I remember in 1987, when my wife was pregnant with our first daughter. A month before she was born, I took a trip to a liquidation sale. Another Brick and Mortar audio shop was closing down, so I bought a pair of Bose 8.2, and my first CD player, which turned out to be junk. It was either Pioneer or Technics. I did it then because I knew I wouldn't have the money afterwards for a good while. Which was so true, because we pumped out two more in short order afterwards. Then I didn't have the energy to do anything other than work, house projects, and raising kids.

Now the kids are grown up, and tomorrow we are celebrating my grandson's 12th birthday. House renovations are set to be completed in September or October. Then I can start thinking about a workshop.
 
That is a crazy coincidence @BilboBaggins, my eldest daughter was born in 1987 and my grandson just turned twelve also! Don't even tell me that you're 60 years old, I'd say a bit shy?

It's to bad that you're without any type of shop or similar place to work on gear. If I were in your situation I'd probably sell the drivers and apply the coin to restore the amp properly? It's not like you don't already have some good speakers. I'd be tempted to build a set of speakers just as you are, but I've been trying really hard not to purchase anything, and in my opinion doing much better than years past. Maybe you should just hang onto them until the end of the year when you may possibly have a shop to work on things again! :rolleyes:

I actually turn 60 this year in September! :beatnik: Crazy! You too?

I've actually been thinking of keeping the drivers. As it stands right now, I've been using the dining room table and the space between the living room and the dining room table to work on speakers. Weather permitting, I work outside, but certain things don't get done well outside. I've moved them temporarily off the table into a fairly safe spot in the bedroom for now, and we shall see what happens. :beerchug:
 
I’m more excited about that silver 1u rackmount thing above the PL, looks very interesting, can you post some pictures of the back and insides?

edit, thought the fuse holders were knobs, so its a 2 channel power amp, still curious who made it

Dazaa, that was made by the guy I bought the amp from. I still haven't plugged it in. Seller says it works, and based on what I've seen, I believe him. He did nice work. I'm curious to look at how he did the volume control on the 1 U front plate. I might have a chance this afternoon. I will definitely post pictures.

Very interesting. Not what I expected at all, thought it was a separate power amp, not just volume control, thank goodness he didn't drill holes in the faceplate of the PL....
 
Not what I expected either. You can see the fuses were an afterthought, as they weren't done as well as the initial work. I haven't gone inside yet. Easter and my grandson's birthday today, but I will probably try it out tomorrow. I also have to check how he connected the input wire. It is set up right now to go into a laptop or phone output.

There is also two singles available out of the US for $59 each. About the same amount after exchange, shipping, and duty/import fees.

It looks like the CAM midranges are gone.

If you keep the "flame linear" 400, make sure those fans are always working. The amps themselves are powerful workhorses, but had a reputation of getting really hot. The 700s were worse than the 400s at burning up, but both originals came without fans, and both models got horrible reliability reputations. All they ever needed was after-market fans.
