I wonder what your significant other thinks of your McIntosh

I wonder what your significant other thinks of your McIntosh.
My wife, always thought I was nuts when it came to stereo, and never goes near it. She knows, I know, what position I left every dial or switch in when I turned it off last, I am nuts, she is right.

With the McIntosh she is asking to hear songs a lot more often then in the past. In fact, she was dancing to some 70's music she asked for the other night. Gotta love that. I wonder if she will let me get another amplifier or two?

Hmmmm

No problem with the WAF here. Made sure she was in on the auditions and it really opened her ears to how sound could be reproduced differently. Now she's got Lu Flu too!

Fortunately, my significant other is not my wife. I have had all of that extreme joy I can stand. I have been with this wonderful woman for 21 years, though. We are attempting to make the Guiness Book of World Records for longest engagement. Hey, it works for us. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

The McIntosh system is all mine, no questions asked, no answers required. I buy gear when I want without any static, because my purchases do not disturb her finances one bit. She enjoys the sound system quite a bit, but nothing on the order of my interest and satisfaction. She does not want to touch it, which keeps me happy, but she will ask to listen to her favorite tunes. I enjoy playing anything she wants to hear. It's my pleasure.

Everything is good here. We work hard to keep it that way. :thmbsp:

Sadly my wonderful, lovely wife, best friend, and love of my life, passed away Nov 3, 2007. We were married 15 years.
She loved everything I loved, including Hi-Fi. She went shopping with me on every purchase and loved my McIntosh gear. She was a big help when we auditioned speakers. She even surprised me a few times on birthdays and holidays with a Rotel RCD-1072 CD player, Vintage Kenwood KR-7600, Yamaha CDR-HD1300. She would sit with me and listen to the Mac system and enjoy gazing at all the lights, but never interested in playing with it. We purchased my Mac system together, C42, MC352, and MR85. She definately appreciated and recognized the superior sound of Hi-Fi compared to what she grew up with. :(

I was able to improve the Mcintosh WAF when I added a MS300 to my system. My wife likes being able to access 1400 flac cds on our home network anywhere in the house with out ever touching a disc from her laptop computer! In her eyes its the best juke box ever! She even gave me approval when I bought the MS300 when my dealer had a clearance sale. She likes Hi-Fi alot. She told me to store cds in flac format insted of mp3s. She likes the sound of lossless flac better:yes:

denniswilson........Your words are a wonderful way to describe your wife, and best friend. I am truly sorry for your great loss. I have no doubt she will always remain as lovely in your heart and soul as she is in the photo you so graciously allowed us to see. Thank you.

Amazed & Puzzled at the following:

1. The speed McGears being added/upgraded.
2. Always some new "creative" stories to justify.
3. Glued to the iMac reading this forum.
4. Listening to music from 11 pm to dusk (U dont like coming to bed with me anymore?).
5. Faithfully cleaning the racks & McGears every other day.
6. Ripping CDs into MS750 (Dont U own the CD's?).
7. Adding same titles of software (She can never understand there is such a thing called RedBook CD, XRCD, now SACD and Vinyl versions - and they do sound different) to my collection.

Cheers!

If I didn't tell my wife that my Mac gear is just second hand retro looking gear, costing no more than new gear of a far lesser quality:D, I'd be in real trouble!

What you say about your beloved wife is very rare. She must have been a wonderful person to understand your hobbie this way. I'm sure she was wonderful in many other ways....

Mine does not care about my system. She enjoys music but never touches it being affraid of "broking something", even though I always told her it was impossible. She just enoys music with a background volume, like in stores !! too sad.
But I'm free to buy anything I want. She never tells me that money could be spent in a better way...

You guys have a much more understanding wife then me. Every piece of equipment brings a unpleasant conversation; otherwise I would have a mcintosh home theater as well instead of a Yamaha receiver

Today is my one week anniversary of being a Mc owner. I had a thread going last week about my new MA6600 that included a post about my wife's initial sticker shock giving way to semi-grudging admiration for the sound. Well last nite, as I was playing the Eagles Millennium Concert at healthy volume levels, I happened to go into the next room. There was my wife, dancing up a storm to All She Wants To Do Is Dance, a big ol' grin on her face. I'd say she's coming around.

She understands the transcendent enjoyment I get from my gear and how listening brings me peace. She knows I've been a Mac nut since 1971. After driving five hours to tour the factory, a month later I took my kids to show him how things used to be made in America and instill in him an understanding of my pride in the gear and -- one day hopefully -- their own.

I only wish she cared about good sound (table radio is fine by her). I envy you guys whose wives actually sit and listen with you!

Music is good for the soul, I keep reminding her. She hasn't kicked me out yet after 25 years! :thmbsp:

Well My other half does not like me obsessing about anything especially when it costs $$

However, new things show up, larger and larger taking more and more space until it has become so large that even I sometimes have to cringe and explain to first time visitors that this is all quite normal to have $100,000+ Audio equipment.

I tell her the money is not spent, just parked in equipment and has value.

It did become larger then I thought it would and if I move I will try to build something to have a more discreet look.

I mean, I am comfortable $$, no Bill Gates, but don't want to come off as a showoff of Look at All My Material Possessions kind of Guy, but am torn between always wanting the best equipment.

Its a battle of Good and Evil and probably the little lady would like something a little less in your face......

Although my wife likes to listen to music thru our whole house system she does not like to just sit and listen to music, so she is seldom in my two channel room. When I am able to coax her in to listen to something she remarks that my McIntosh pieces seem to be multiplying. She remembers the name from years ago and understands it is a quality product.

I think she believes I lost it about 30 years ago when I brought home my first expensive braided speaker wire and asked her to sit and listen to it. (At that time it was connecting my DQ-10's and Ampzilla power amp) She just looked at me like I was nuts and laughed. Now she just smiles when I talk about listening to this or that.

Great thread. My wife could care less about my system herself, but is very supportive of me enjoying my hobby. She leaves me alone for my evening listening sessions, but never joins (if the C2200 goes above 20, it's WAY too loud!) My older daughter sometimes sits in and has a tremendous appreciation for music, particularly classic rock. We do enjoy the occasional movie or TV show in there and we sit in there for hours on the weekend listening quietly while reading or working.

The cool thing about my wife is that she just doesn't mind how loud I listen. She is usually right above the theater in the bedroom watching TV and she is just used to the booming below. Even adding the JL f113 didn't phase her! The kids grew up with me blasting music down stairs, they could sleep through a Black Sabbath concert.

On the aesthetics front, my custom cabinets were critical. It HAD to look nice or no way. I succeeded there and she never bothers me about the equipment in the cabinets. However, she draws the line at room treatments, that is out of the question (I tried many times!) I crossed the line with the XRT1K's though. She is really not crazy about those monsters (they are a bit much!) She liked the "little one eyed men" better (B&W N802.) Oh well!

All in all, we are pretty well balanced.

I can't remember who said it on this forum years ago, but it sums up our relationship well also;

"She complains about my stereo to no end until we have company, and then I catch her bragging about it to her friends." :sigh:
