ID on interesting local speakers--are they worth checking out?

Yes, that's an Altec driver; the others look interesting as well.

Maybe, not just the woofer.
The three gray, square magnet drivers look like they have the old Lansing/Hollywood logo. Though I'm far from being knowledgeable about all things Altec. Just the first thing that I noticed.
 
Who knows what could be in the pair, but the Altec in the other cabinet (if from the same installation) points to quality drivers. I would be all over that ad if close to me. Good luck!
 
Actually, I've looked all over the TOS on CL before, and I can't find anywhere in the TOS they say you have to have a price... HOWEVER, I hate people that do best offer, and I usually go out of my way to avoid those ads..
 
Sure there's people that abuse the "best offer" on craigslist, but I can't understand why people get upset when someone says make me an offer because they truly dont know how to price it. Not everyone's that internet savvy to check around for prices, and they could miss out on a big deal if they put something up for $20 which would still be a good bargain at $500. Yes, eBay is where you really need to post an auction, but for large speakers that are difficult to ship, rare, and hard to price, I don't think its that unreasonable.
 
I talked to the seller and am trying to get out there this evening. My wife likes the looks of the speakers on legs (she loves mod stuff) so that is already a bonus. Hopefully I will come home with them tonight! I will try and keep everyone posted... :D

It could be more clear, and it isn't in the Terms of Use, only the faq. For anyone who doesn't want to follow the link, here is what it says:

No - craigslist is not an auction site. If you have something to offer, please post a set price. Please do not scalp or solicit bidding contests on craigslist, and do not link to offsite auctions on eBay or elsewhere.

Ditto with leeph. The smaller ones are for sure Altec 402 or 401As. Nice full range drivers (I think) and worth over $100 each at least. :yes: Looks like the one at the bottom right has been replaced.

That group of speakers constitutes a mega score. I'd be on that like stink on cooked broccoli.

Photos and information!

Okay, the stuff is all safe at my house and I now have photos as well! Unfortunately the cool cabinets were pretty much gutted of whatever was in there before (no horns or mids were present, only screw holes), one of them had a Realistic woofer in it (this guy must have made a Radio Shack run--the 4th speaker (non-Altec replacement) in the big box was a RS special as well), but the other one had a Utah "Celesta," which if nothing else looks really cool.

As for the big box, that stuff in there is heavy, big and 4/5 Altec (the replacement being the aforementioned RS driver). The smaller ones with the box backs are indeed Altec 401A's, and the big daddy in the middle is an Altec 415C BiFlex. I don't have any way to test these out right now (all connected with normal wire right now, no crossover or other hookups), but apparently they were pretty impressive while in use. The original owner, who has since passed away (these came as remnants from an estate sale), was an electronic nut and these came from an old organ that he had them hooked into. The guy I got them from said that the people down the street always knew when he was playing...

The guy I bought them from (unexpectedly very friendly and nice, by the way--just short in emails I guess) also gave me a tube amp that he had laying in his garage. I only heard "free" and "tubes" and thanked him and packed it into the cab of my truck. Which will lead me to my second post on the tube amp... :D

The free tube amp (Help?)

So here it is... I have only run solid state equipment up to this point (although I have heard a few nice sounding tube systems and have been interested in getting into tubes), so I am completely at a loss with this sucker. As you can see there aren't any RCA inputs either, so I am at even more of a loss as to how to get this thing up and running with an input source. The original owner said that he thought it ran at about 40 WPC, but wasn't exactly sure. He also said that there was a slight hum to it, and that he though it just needed some new caps to get rid of that. It looked like it was in decent shape and I couldn't beat the price!

Things that I know about it:
1. It is fairly heavy and appears to be from an organ (making it an organ donor?:D)
2. The main fuse isn't blown
3. The side posts are labeled (but that doesn't quite seem to help me unfortunately)
4. The guts looks clean and there isn't any tarnish
5. It is officially my first tube amp! :thmbsp:(?)

Things I don't know about it:
1. Practically everything. :scratch2: Help, please!
Has anyone heard of this brand (Electronic Organ Arts)? I remember hearing somewhere (probably on here...) that tube amps aren't supposed to be powered up without a load, so I haven't even turned it on yet. Is it a mono amp? I ask because despite the separate volume controls, there is only one connecting post running from each of the labeled Ohm outputs on the side (see photo). Anyways, I was just really curious about this thing, and was hoping for some input from you guys. Thanks in advance!

Now I have to figure out what to do with it all... :D

Ya done good! Congratulations!
It is a mono amp, seems to have two inputs and some type of preamp. Pretty old, I'd say, by virtue of those metal 6L6s. That's 1940s technology. It might not take much to get that going.
