Ideas on how to repair this Altec 19 butchery?

As already said, those crossovers look fantastic. Makes me want to build a set and I don't even have a use for them.

The knowledge, skills, and talents of the folks on this site continues to amaze me. Great job!

FYI- Home Depot sells barrier strips you can screw down to the plate area where the wire leads are located- should you be interested..........

Thanks. I may do just that. I soldered male spade connectors onto those wires and shorted them, then secured them with hot glue so the Altec iwres can plug in. But it doesn't look very neat.
I think I will look for those strips as I need some black screws for the new grill velcro anyway.

Here are the two new crossovers.

Those crossovers are the bomb. :thmbsp:

Finished putting them together this morning. I have to say I was a bit nervous when turning on the amp as I had no idea if the new xo's would even work seeing as I have never built anything like this before.
So do they work?
Yes!
They sound wonderful and with a bit of adjusting on the L-pads they sounded even better.
And with 3 coats of Danish oil rubbed with the 0000 steel wool they have a very nice finish compared to the drippy varathane they had when I brought them home. I have new foams for the horns coming from the Darst's and I since two of the grill have a few fractures I am going to take the two good ones and have a complete set made. But I like the look of the 19's without grills anyway.
Using my AU-717 they are loud and very detailed. I can expect better things when I organize my room and hook them to the AU-D11 II.
I need to get rid of some speakers to appease the wife so the HPM100's are first on the list. I'd like to keep the Walsh 4's.

I think the patches look pretty good considering what I started with. The flash makes it look worse than it is.

I may end up taking the brass washers out from behind those allen cap screws.

Nice job on the crossovers, Zilch would be proud, you are gonna be glad you traded the 901s off for those, after you hear them. Big P.I.T.A. now but you will be saying WOW after they are up-n-runnin.

The 901's are not in the same leauge as these Altecs. Its not even close. The 19's are not only more effecient but produce much more detail.
I'm glad I made this trade but it was a lot of work.

The refinishing was the biggest chore I thought. Alot of surface area there.

Damn, dude... that's like a night-and-day transformation on those 19's. :jawdrop:

In fact, if we didn't have pictures of the sorry state they were in, it'd be hard to believe that they were that jacked up before.

THAT'S the way you do it! :thmbsp:

Thanks for the compliments guys. I inverted the woofers 180 from where they were before as I've read its a good thing to do.
Any truth to this or should I put them back in the original orientation?
And for only two speakers in one large cabinet they sure make some beautiful sounds. I can't say enough how pleased I am with the way this worked out.
And again, many thanks for all the tips. Zilch, if you read this, thanks again for posting all the information required to make it building the Z19 possible.

I am almost speechless.....:D

Beautiful work...really.

I love the grain match of the patch...with a bit of age...it will disappear and look as if it was never done.

Beautiful work :thmbsp:
