Last pic showed a PDC meter, which has since been replaced. Like any of my electronics, the shack tends to evolve over time - I pick up some piece of neglected gear, restore it, and see if it works. Nothings exploded recently anyway ...

Also picked up a couple neat mikes seen, a Turner +3 and the D104. That's kind of a rare animal ... non powered TUG8 stand with both the "chicken choker" and base ring actuators, with an honest for real working crystal element.

But I digress ... ;-}

That is one heck of a cool setup :)
I always wanted to get into it, in high school a friend's dad had a (to us kids) very sweet setup with the antenna being up high in thr Los Altos foothills.

You pic triggers impulsive googling and ebay searching... :)

Had a PDL-II for awhile and sold it. Need to get back into HF.

I'm sorry to hear that your home and belongings have suffered from the storm - seems quite odd for something that tropical-looking appear so far north. That looks more like stuff we get down here! LOL

As someone who has recently had water breach into equipment, all I can recommend (assuming it's not too late at this point) is wait as long as you're willing to hold out.

While you're waiting, take the time to browse the net for cost/availability of electronic doodads that would likely need to be replaced in the event the water has not fully evaporated by the time you decide to power-up. ;)

It was only just a few drops of super-mild homebrew cleaning solution that had fallen through the top vent of my receiver and I thought I had managed to dry it all and assumed I had certainly waited sufficient time for any residual moisture evaporation, but as luck would have it i missed the wet legs of the output transistors where they bolted to the heatsink - and within a split second of power-up, I blew out at least one channel of the output pairs and got a nearby cement resistor to glow like bulb. While one half of the transistor pairs have been easy to locate, the complimentary other half has been backordered for over a month, and now things are starting to look even less optimistic since a replacement for that resistor does not appear to exist. A very fine neo-vintage receiver reduced to a wood-trimmed chunk of metal. I still haven't given up on it, but things are looking less likely as time passes.

Good luck with your equipment, I hope to read later in the thread that cleanup was a success :)

Commiserations, good Sir! Living in a part of RSA which seems to have the 3rd - 4th highest rate of thunderstorms on this planet, your experience is sympathised with!

As for drying carpets and similar stuff, I have a vacuum cleaner which can suck up water, plus a heat gun which can blow into crevasses. But it is still a patience requiring job; no hurrying up mother nature in the evaporating business.

Concerning washing down electronic equipment, feel free to use proper dish-washing detergent. It is dried-out layers of residue that causes damage/conductivity - so a good rinse afterwards will take care of that. But moisture 'sucked' into e.g. shielded cables will take a few days, depending. Good luck!

[O.T: Up here our greatest danger lies in summer lightning strikes, which you might also have experience of. That is a different kind of animal!]
 
We are in the midst of Monsoon season here in the Southwest. We get to see massive thunder heads reaching above 60,000 the mountains ranging from white white at the tops to almost black under the cloud. sometimes. We always joke about the people we have lost bowling as the booms of thunder move across the sky over head. On almost any day we can see over a 100 miles, so having a thunder storm miles away taking up almost half the horizon and sky in front of you with lighting strifes off in the distance and the thunder being arriving 15 to 30 seconds later is quite a treat. We have a covered patio and I sit out under cover when the strifes get close. One or two seconds is not unusual. Most of the time the thunder and lightning come first and then the rain and further thunder comes after word. I use to take photos and make recordings of massive thunderheads with lightning strikes for science projects and for student in college studying weather phenomenon. We don't live in tornado country, its to dry and we don't get the extreme cold fronts meeting the hot moist air from the gulf. We do get a black cloud or two every ten years so from the gulf of California that sometimes make it to West Texas, but only rarely. Those you watch out for. We get small hail on rare occasions because it is so dry. We are in a dry cycle now so there is a lot of thunder but little rain. Wet years we have more grey days with the pretty clouds and lightning being masked by the over cast. But the thunder is still there. So having are electronics protected is a big concern. I have been lucky over the years only loosing one control board for my 42 cu ft Kitchenaide refer/freezer. But that was caused by a 30 second brown out and the HiFi and video equipment was all shut offf. The computer was hooked tom a power back-up so it was safe.
 
Waddaya mean, of that era? They're still using them in the "new" Battlestar Galactica". Really funny when you see one with no cord held up or shoved in someone's face by a reporter at one of the President's news conferences ... backwards ... <G>

I've seen em show up in a few futuristic movies too - kind of like the accessory third eye brake lights Star Trek used for their "battle station" blinkers in the corridors of the Enterprise.

Oh - fun fact about the Turner +3. For whatever reason, people liked a shortie version that Turner sold for a bit, but they're rare as hens teeth. The one I got was chopped down by someone or other. I stretched the neck back to standard size and a bit of bondo and textured paint later, it was back as the turner gods originally intended.

We had an ass-kicker move thru here this morning about 8 am and lost power for about an hour. As soon as it happened I jumped up and unplugged everything. Luckily it didn't bump and just shut down.
I hate it when it happens.

I had an se-9060 for a bit - very keen to get another one (and this time, not botch up the restore.....)
 
Had the Turner mike back in the 70's CB era use. Beats using the phone then. Liked the mike but needed longer battery life (9V).
