If you had to choose/build a speaker driver, what would you want on the cone?

I knew somebody was gonna provide this. I definitely like that too.

The modernized version of that would be a 1" dome tweeter in the middle of the cone. Or even a horn loaded compression driver in the center would be dope.
That's almost certainly what's in there. That's a wave guide.

Out.

for the record, f*ck looks.
This thread was just for fun. What's to be offended of? Of course, just because they look good doesn't mean they sound good, and nor is the reverse direction. But you can still create a good looking speaker driver that sounds good, too. It just takes some time, effort, and research. Not to mention a fairly healthy budget. But if thou art surcease, thou can go one way or the other.

Since 1943.

That's a wave guide.
It's a sectored exponential horn.

The best way to define the difference between waveguide and horn is by their engineering design goals.

A waveguide has been designed with it's primary goal being that of controlling dispersion and containing acoustic output within a determined pattern.

A horn, while it also controls dispersion has been designed with it's primary goal being that of providing acoustic gain.

While some waveguides do provide acoustic gain, it is not a primary design goal of the waveguide.
