Since I've gotten a real job I've been thinking about foraying into the world of modern high fidelity and this has caught my eye.

The Onkyo A-9070 INT.

I ain't cheap ($1,300) but I think it might be a worth while journey. What do you guys think, any suggestions or though's.

It's nice to look at but I would guess and only guess because I have not heard the Onkyo that at $1300 there will other amps that would potentially outperform it. I would do as much listening as possible before you settle down with one.

I completely understand what you're getting at and I will admit there are one or two other ints that have pulled my gaze from the Onk *cough* Anthem 225 *cough*. Though the issue becomes finding a place that either carries both amps I'm looking at or finding two stores close enough that I can demo them with in the same day. Though in all honestly it will probably be a bit till I pull the funds together (still paying my TV off) and the little fact that Onkyo hasn't officially released it state side yet.

It is pretty as well and it does have a few more WPC but that doesn't mean better amp though.

I'm just happy that companies like Onkyo somehow remembered about the audio crowd. That amp looks as great as any vintage gear I've spent my money on. I would take a look at the latest Marantz hi-fi gear while your shopping.
 
Nice piece...worth looking into. A lot of choices at that price range though: rega, nad, creek, etc.

I definitely want to give the Anthem a fair chance and while it is 225 wpc v 140 wpc (don't know if I'll miss the 85 wpc all that much.) Though a listen is definitely in order.

I also took a look at the more "affordable" Marantz Integrated's and I can't say I was all that wowed by there appearance (not my taste) or specs (I mean 80 wpc for $999). They weren't terrible but not what I'd want to lay down my money for.

Though I did find this little gem from Marantz sister company.

The main issues I have are the $2,500 price tag, only 100 wpc almost double the Onkyo and Anthems price and less power, and that denon is very tight lipped about any specs (I had to look fpr the info in a variety of places none of which were the official Denon page). Though on the bright side I can buy it for $1,300 as a demo unit.

We'll see. Though as I said I'm kinda spit balling at the moment but I really do what to make the leap from vintage to modern. Now only if Onkyo would release that amp state side I could demo it and see if it sounds as pretty as it looks.
 
That Onk is pretty, and should sound nice as well. I would wonder about support if something goes wrong. And that price seems a bit high to me.

When I wanted to modernize my system, I looked at new, and then looked at prices. I decided to shop around the used market, A'gon and BT mainly. That $1300.00 will go a long way if you can stand slightly used and are willing to take the time to research and listen. Kinda like buying a car, I'll never buy new again.

My PSAudio GCC 100 was $2800.00 new and has $1000.00 worth of verified factory mods. I paid less than half the new price for it shipped in the box with everything as new.

if you notice they do have a finish selection (black or silver) the silver image won't load but it's the only product on the site to have that option. So it will probably be available in that color as well. Even in Black it's till pretty.

Have you checked out the Yamaha a-s2000? Discontinued for this year but you still can find them around.

One think the Onkyo has going for it that the Anthem and Yamaha don't have is the built in DACs, similar to the HK990 which is a step upward.
