Broad Ripple

I always thought Broad Ripple must have been formed by folks from other areas who were missing culture :smoke: They have a lot more music and art than rest of the Indy area and try to promote that. I missed a chance to see the John Butler Trio there once and regretted it....great band.

I'd like to move one day to experience something different but I am stuck for a while yet. Sites like this help with boredom...lol. I spent a couple of hours going through pic threads the other night.

welcome aboard,
mark

Hey Jon L,

Did you ever see the Dorkestra or Carrie Newcomer? I was on the edge of the B'ton music scene shooting albums for lots of bands. The mid 80's to late 90's was good music in town. My students ran a coffeehouse house on campus and we bookded alot of folk artists like david wilcox. Not NYC but an oasis in the midwest.

I remember those names, but I don't think I ever saw them. I had two young children at home (infant and 3 years old), so I didn't get out as much as I'd have liked. I mostly went to the blues jams run by Gordon Bonham at the Bluebird, and by David Bass who owns Roadworthy Guitars. Both great players.

The music scene was great in B'ton. NYC is great for most everything, but it is a little lacking in blues and other "roots" music. That stuff was actually more approachable in B'ton.

Ahhh the Bluebird spent much time their in the 9 years i was in town. Yes Gordon was one of the best blues players around. Very musical town. And don't forget the Slippery Noodle up in Indy.

Hello, welcome, and I feel your pain. I spent a weekend in Indiana two weeks ago. My car summed it up..it broke down 100' after crossing the IL/IN border. I saw the sign, and then I lost a cylinder. I should have listened to my car! To be fair...Bloomington was nice, and I have some dear friends their. But a weekend in IN was enough. I don't like Chicago, either, to be honest....but it is a wonderful place for vintage audio.
