Inexpensive mono blocks?

Somehow I have convinced myself that I need a pair of mono blocks to play with. I am just looking for some recommendations. I have been looking at the Decware SE84C’s. Any others you guys could recommend?

Are you looking for new or vintage? Lots of old stuff out there, but sometimes finding a twin can be a problem. How much power are you after ?

The old Bogen stuff is pretty good (MO 100s etc......), and there's always the Heathkit monos with nice potted iron (A7s, W5s etc....). I wouldn't know about new production stuff.

I am open to new or vintage, or even DYI like these Bob Latino M-125 I just read about. How much power? Not really sure. Those Decware's are like 6 watts ea.

I had a pair of Dared VP-20 mono-blocks that I very much enjoyed.

Wait, you're the guy that was talking about buying a 2nd ES amp to match yours yesterday (which would be under $150 and give you 300wpc), and now you're looking at series-bridging flea-powered boutique SET amps? How did you get from there to here?

P.S. 84.5dB sensitivity calls for at least a good hunk of power. Personally, I'd go solid state.

On Mark III's be very careful as some folks just recap them then try to sell for more than they are worth. A recapped Mark III is worth little more than a stock one IMHO. Now if it's been modified to make it the amp it should have been in the begining or more then that is a different story.....

Yes. For the Mark IIIs, look for units that have had not only new power supply caps, but also new driver boards installed. VTA, Triode Electronics, Poseidon, etc.
