Infinity IL60's still worth it?

i know but i was curious.
i do not have the rabos kit.
did you notice a difference after adjustments?
Yes. Tighter bass, less boomy.

I’ve got weird bass preferences, honestly. I like tight bass but sometimes a little boom is just fine with me. These speakers can be tough depending on your room since you can’t move the subs. I’m sure you know this.

I bought a pair new when they came out. The biggest issue I had was more stiffening was needed for the cabinet. You can hear the box talking at med volumes and higher. And those plate amps do need servicing. Infinity issued several service bulletins for these as well as the 100 and 120 watt Interlude subs.....
I haven’t noticed the box yet… now I’ll be looking for it. If I have to I will add a brace.

Do you still have them? If not, what did you get afterwards?

you bought these new, wow. they sound good but $2500 a pair back in 2000 was quite a bit of cabbage.

did you mod yours for more stiffness? my ears are not that good to notice the need for it. especially since the graphs i've seen show an impressive result.

i did see the service tips on the manual. now i'm curious of the birthday of mine. i think they are on the older side due to the heat sink on the tweeters. the ones i bought from infinity recently do not have the heat sink.

i'm impressed with the sound and tech that they have for a 21 year old speaker. i don't know of any current speaker with rabos or anything like it.

do you still have yours?

The IL60s are long gone; sold them quite a few years ago. I never did try to stiffen the cabinet, but did do the mods on the cross over for the mid and tweeter. If there is interest, can see if I can still find the photos. Used to take photos of all the work I did for reference if I ever needed it.
Just going from memory seem to recall when I looked inside there was little to none internal bracing on the IL60 cabinet especially towards the bottom. At any reasonable volume level you could hear the cabinets resonating.

In the Interlude line, I always thought the best sounding speaker was the IL-10. At one time owned 4 pairs of them and did upgrades for friends that had bought them.....you can really make these sing with better cross over parts.
Upgrade the cross over parts on the IL10 and you really had something. Add a pair of IL-120 subs to them and you could have really good sound for not a lot of coin.
And the IL-10s were pretty easy to drive. Could even drive them with a larger SET Tube amp...

Over the years have owned quite a bit of the infinity lines. Another under rated speaker is the passive version of the intermezzo 2.6. Really well made speaker and drivers.

Thats interesting. I'd love to know what mods you made for the 60s (even though I would be hesitant to do it) and the 10s. Very curious as to what improvements you got from them.

In addition to the 60s, I have a pristine pair of 10s and two pair of 40s. The prices I paid for a pair of 40s, for their quality, was highway robbery. I paid $50 or $75 (dont recall which) for one pair of 40s. I'm planning a crossover mod on that set.

oh you sold yours huh i do not plan on getting rid of mine especially since they were free

i can't imagine how much better they could sound but i'll give it a go is it a few caps and resisters that need upgrading

there's a few 10s for sale on f'book and fleabay that i'm thinking of getting just to have a complete set of the il family

i recently found an il36c and it sounds really good too

Definitely snag a pair of 10s. They are outstanding. They actually filled my living room (22x18) as well as the IL40s. IMO, these are a major steal on the market today.

Also, the 36c is a great center. You should be able to find one for $90-100. I replaced two B&W centers (LCR6 and HTM61; the HTM is the worst center I have ever heard for a speaker priced above $400) with the 36.

The IL-10s used the same tweeter as the Prelude MTS series, minus the heat sink on the magnet structure. If you add some film bypass caps to the electrolytics in the IL10 cross over they really come to life. pretty hard to beat with xover mods, until you get north of 2k or so....

The il36 really impressed me I finally hooked it up yesterday and was skeptical of the amount of bass it had even in the lower range, have yet to try the IL10's may do that tonight

Found another pair of IL60's may try and snag for my son's room I like them obviously lol. He was jealous and wanted to upgrade to them from his Primus p363 towers said my IL60's made them look tiny now lol

well i'll be getting a pair of il10s tomorrow for $100.
it might be on the high side but 20 year old speakers are difficult to find in good shape.
i will have a 5.1 of the ils, 60-10-36c.

I upgraded the electrolytic caps for the tweeters in my Il 40's and what a difference, before there was low detail and rolled off and life less almost like a blanket was over the speaker, to me it was like I had earplugs in my ears, I couldn't listen to them anymore, I am use to my IRS Epsilons tweeter so I know what a good tweeter sounds like but after the cap mod oh boy I'm liking the il 40's and can listen to them now for hours on end, the caps I used was the Jantzen Alumen Z-Cap, it takes a few hundred hours to fully break in but when it does it's sound is addictive, they are huge but can be installed, here is a video I made of how I installed them and a review on the caps

wow a few HUNDRED hours to break in?!

Watched the video. Honestly, I’ve always thought these tweeters were awesome with the right parts and crossover design. I’m very happy with the 40s as is… but I did purchase an extra set of 40s just for this purpose.

is this the one you used?

That's the one! honestly you get use to how muffled and dull the tweeter is in the Il 40's if I listen to my Epsilon for five minutes and switch to the Il 40 it's a joke, honestly when you first install the new caps you will think you wasted your money like I did but once they break in you won't be able to listen to the stock Il 40's anymore, at least I can't

Man comparing my IL60's to the B@W CDM7SE'S they replaced is night and day, I feel the same with the tweeter on the IL60's until I hear an accurate recording or at least one that makes them shine and I realize what I have been missing skipping certain songs that were too bright before its unreal the difference and I have come to the tear affect listening to these I am happy to say.

I have been wondering how to upgrade these but the more I listen with more volume then usual I appreciate them more then before its an odd relationship with these as I usually find more flaws with more output but not so far
