Infinity RS76

Hi guys,

Does anyone have any info on these speakers? Not much online.
Considering buying them for use on either my sansui 5900z of my kenwood ka8300. What are your thoughts?

I think the seller got the model number wrong. Looks like Rs-7b. Any info or opinion will be appreciated.

Not a bad little speaker. Infinitys from that period had woofer surrounds (I'm not sure but possibly the midranges as well) that degraded and need replacement at some point. If that is an actual picture of the ones you are considering it looks like they may be ok and probably been replaced already.
Can you go listen to them before buying?
If everything is working as it should and you like how they sound it all comes down to price. Questions of value need to be asked in the Dollars and Sense area.

Yes that is an actually picture of the ad. Unfortunately can't test them out before buying. Meeting the person in a parking lot. He said he tested them a month ago when he put up the ad. He is asking $85. Any advice on what to look for on the speakers since I am taking a chance? In your opinion do you think they are worth $85? Old school infinity or any 1970's speakers are hard to come by in Scarborough, Ont.

Worth CDN $85? No question, probably worth at least $150. I'd bring something I could test them with. Do you have an inverter for your car? And do you further have an amp or receiver that you can plug into the inverter to test the speakers (you'll be limited to about 120 watts total power consumption, NOT power output, but that should be fine for a test)? You can use your phone as a signal source.

Or does your car have an aftermarket stereo with a separate power amp? You can connect the Infinities directly to that amp. Or if the rear speakers in the car are accessible, you could unplug the connectors from those speakers and use some alligator clip leads and extensions and connect to the Infinities.

You can also try momentarily connecting a 1.5V battery to the speaker terminals using some extension leads. Listen for a click from each driver. I'd also push in the woofers near the center (to the left and right of the center cap) and make sure you don't feel any voice coil rub. They should move smoothly in and out. If you have a multimeter, bring it and test the resistance of each speaker. They should be fairly close (within a 1/2 ohm of each other). Should measure around 3-4 ohms.

Thanks for your help! I ended up getting them, and pretty happy with them. Still think I need one with a bigger woofer for my system, but this will compliment my sansui backup system nicely. The seller mis quoted the model number so was able to get them at a really good price as no one came to see them.

But yes, if all is as it should be with those speakers $85 CDN is only $62 USD so well worth the ask.

According to Infinity Classics, they're rated down to 45hz, which isn't bad for an 8" woofer from that era. If they seem to be lacking in bass, make sure the woofers are getting their full excursion; I once purchased a pair of Infinities that had been refoamed improperly, and the woofers hardly moved at all.

BTW, you can mention prices in other forums (e.g. "I'm looking for a pair of speakers for $200 or less), you just can't ask if something is worth such and such a value. Sort of a fine line.
