Initial review: TCC TC-750 phono preamp.

Felix, Analogisgood, anyone,

ever thought about putting something like the TCC 750 inside your main amp / receiver. If one gets lucky, it could work on the DC rails of the amp.

Saves one cable and 4 plugs and nicely shielded as a bonus.

IT DOES !!!

I have a TC-750 coupled to an extensively modded Rega Planar 3; and I upgraded all of the caps to Elna Silmic II's and de-and-resoldered the joins with Mundorf silver lead free solder. I also removed the TC-750 'output' RCA's and soldered in silver plated balanced/shielded (to source) mic leads about 1.5' long to gold plated solid copper RCA plugs to amp. The sound did very noticeably improve. Soundstage, transparency, detail..., however it did at least double the cost of the unit, with the Elna caps etc...

I have ordered a tube hybrid phono/line in preamp kit (pre-assembled 90%) from Jurgen at http://www.nixiekits.eu/ ... I daresay this will sound phenomenal and blow the rest out of the water ... I suspect...

Looking forward to a comparison with the modded TC-750..., also will be building an op-amp CNC down the track..., and compare....

(...also would like to compare to a stock 'boozehound' as well at some stage...)

...I was thinking of doing that with a phono section of an old solid heavy JVC amp where the phono part may need revamping..., however I was thinking of the CNC for that; but you could easily do it I would imagine with the TC-750 internals also...; or keep the case on I guess if there is room for 'extra shielding'...

Yeay, I can't imagine these wallwarts doing anything positive for your sound :(
I simetimes wonder how much RF interference we introduce to our houses' systems with all these nasties hanging from the AC outlets ...

You won't be disappointed with CNC MM Phonostage as someone says here its a Gient Killer.It beats almost any mid priced Phonostage and user can easily swap Opamps to suit their system.

I must say however, my modded TC-750 sounds rather super...(still waiting for the Hybrid tube/op-amp from Nixiekits) ...and I am using a ... 4 amp regulated power supply originally meant for a digital flat screen TV...

hmmm....we will see when 'comparison time' comes...hehehe...; however I hope it at least comes close to the claims made about it, because then I can recommend it to others on a budget ...

(rest assured I will be using better components for the CNC when building it - as I do with any unit I build; Ansar supersound caps or Elna Silmic II's or Nichicon Muse I like to use as a rule of thumb; with Mundorf silver (lead-free) solder and wire wound and/or foil resistors :-)

Keep us update.It will be interesting to see how premium caps perform in CNC.New PCB has wider pads for bigger PP caps,so no problem.

Same OEM ?

As an owner of a TC pre as a backup I feel confident that either the CNC or a Hagerman Bugle would be far superior even if the TC has been modded. I'm a big fan of the Bugle myself.

individually - the bugle manual list all of the part numbers to order from digi-key

strike that I believe the new version of the kit comes with all the parts needed
 
battery power

TCC makes a 9-volt battery powered version - the TCC TC-450 - which is $10-15 cheaper than yours (at least on Amazon in the US).
 
I bought a Yaqin MS23B and I like!
For me is on another level if compared to TC-750. Significantly improve quality mainly in treble levels, is perceptible the diference.
