Initial review: TCC TC-750 phono preamp.

Hi resurrecting an old thread. Just picked up a TC-750LC, ive heard a few reports that the volume control can add a negative sound signature.

Anyone able to confirm or deny that the volume should be disconnected?

Anyone know the procedure to disconnect pot?

Thanks, plan to connect to 12v battery with Ortofon 2M Blue.

G'day mate, I'm not sure why your TCC TC-750 sounds harsh because mine cetainly doesn't. :scratch2:

Perhaps your unit was faulty out of the factory perhaps? What power supply are you using? I'll never go back to the supplied wallwart after using a pure DC battery power supply! Regards, Felix aka catman.

Hey, sorry to bump an old Post. I bought a step down converter to charge a gel cell battery pulled from a security panel. 2 questions, how long does your battery last before you need to charge it?
Also, how do you know when? I know I could use a multimeter but I'm thinking about getting a panel mounted battery meter to see when it gets close to dropping under 12v.
Would the meter be wise or do you think it's a unnecessary drain on the battery?

This thread seems to be oft resurrected and I'm doing my part to continue the trend over months and years.
Just picked up one of these (the TC-750LC gain/trim pot version) after nearly doing so again and again for the past 8 years. It's running with my 2ndary table, a Technics SL-7 and just wanted to pipe up. I've tried a number of sub $150 phono stages in the past while and this thing, to my ears, blows them all away. Smooth and musical.

I was using a gel cell on an artdjll that went wonky. I added an analog voltage meter and have about a 1v drop every month or 2 when not in use. A digital meter would probably use less power. I charge it when it gets down to 10.5v just to keep it alive in case I find a use for it in the future.

I have a TC-750 coupled to an extensively modded Rega Planar 3; and I upgraded all of the caps to Elna Silmic II's and de-and-resoldered the joins with Mundorf silver lead free solder. I also removed the TC-750 'output' RCA's and soldered in silver plated balanced/shielded (to source) mic leads about 1.5' long to gold plated solid copper RCA plugs to amp. The sound did very noticeably improve. Soundstage, transparency, detail..., however it did at least double the cost of the unit, with the Elna caps etc...

I have ordered a tube hybrid phono/line in preamp kit (pre-assembled 90%) from Jurgen at http://www.nixiekits.eu/ ... I daresay this will sound phenomenal and blow the rest out of the water ... I suspect...

Looking forward to a comparison with the modded TC-750..., also will be building an op-amp CNC down the track..., and compare....

(...also would like to compare to a stock 'boozehound' as well at some stage...)

Could you please share replacement caps values ?

Sounds good on battery and i belive you need to spend alott more money to Get a better phono stage
