And a group of (IIRC) teens who, fashioning themselves after The Ventures, formed in a garage in Illinois (note: a western suburb of Chicago, but still within Cook County, IIRC) circa 1962-3, called themsleves The Venturas, and released a single LP on the Drum Boy label (note: in 40 years of LP & 78 collecting I found two copies of this LP, one SIS but sliced open) in 1963. I have to second The Ventures. They are one of my all time favorites. I was especially fond of Nokie Edwards, The King of Guitars in Japan.

Another of my old time favorites is Duane Eddy

Some of the modern psyche artists have some interesting guitar-driven stuff.
