Interesting Estate Sale Here In Raleigh....

Even if late, take time to look through every area, cabinets, drawers, etc. as that place has a lot of smalls. Never know what you might find.
 
In NJ I if there are items I really want I arrive no later than 5 AM, and start a list if no numbers are available; I am usually the first, but even then you have to be quick to decide and make your deal, as there are usually other guys with their own offer right behind. I've told that in places like Long Island it can get brutal but here it has always been civil.

We do it for the love of the gear, but there are many guys who do it to earn extra, they are usually the ones we compete with at sales. Most times the sellers err on the high or even very high side of pricing, thought I have gotten great deals about 20% of the time. Records and CD are usually at very decent pricing, but rarely do I find music I really want and the records are not well cared most of the time.

Well, I survived. Nosally was 6th in line and grabbed most of the Altec stuff. I was about 30th, and got a lot of Iron and a Lansing 515B with a torn cone. GPA, here we come!

Sweet! You guys should have gone as a pair of brothers, maybe next time - two covering the same area could make scope out more stuff and quicker.

I did not fight the early crowd but went around 10:00. Still a whole lot of fascinating audio/film/tech stuff, and lots of tools and parts. There was an entire film projection room that had been set up to show 35mm features to 30 people in a mini-stadium environment. Wow.

Most of the valuable stuff had sold early. The Barcelonas had a $1700 tag and were sold. Wish I could have heard those. The remaining amps were mostly early solid state and overpriced IMHO. They also wanted a lot ($130?) for an HK Citation III tube tuner that will need full refurbishment. I bought a few records and Type II cassettes. Fun sale to explore.

sorry you didn't get the Barcelonas but that's a fair amount of $$$$ to commit to.

Hope you get some rest before checking back in.

Should be interesting to see what's left.

Was 3rd in line once and missed a stack of Mac gear for $175.00 by 15 secs. :tears:

Meh, it's got nothing to do with being cool at all; it's just a reality of the business world, which like it or not, is exactly what estates sales are.

The guy did his homework and probably spent hours in line or at least got up early enough to get a top number or place on the list. Then he ante'd up the cash and dealt with moving 340# of vintage speakers.

There's no guarantee he'll get his price; I doubt he will. But if and when he sells them, there's somebody who will be very happy that he snagged this set and made them available to them. :yes:
 
Looks like the altec's are up on the auction site already..

says " I am selling for a client"

They do look nice...but I got me a pair....
