Interesting Technics 1200 upgrade site.

Just somehow stumbled across an interesting site full of Technics 1200 mods. Looks almost like a British KAB.

http://www.sl-1200-mk2.com/

Except that unlike KAB, this site puts proper emphasis on the tonearm, and promotes putting a true high-fi arm on the Technics deck. Something that superb chassis and motor deserve! Shame that Technics does not offer a good arm. Technics had some rather excellent high end arms at one time(EPA-500 for example) but seem to have completely abandoned/discontinued them. Least they could do is offer them as an 'ultra' version of the SL-1200 or something. I imagine that a SL-1200 with a simple external added wood veneered case around it's sides, some solid metal machined feet and that EPA-500 arm(of course with arm tube shortened to work on the SL-1200 properly) would be bought up like crazy with a $1000 USD price. It would be an incredible deal/bargain. FYI, the EPA-500 arm was made of titanium, had a very stiff tapered arm with lowish resonance, and top notch ruby bearings and dynamic dampening that allowed just about any cartridge to be used on it ideally with a simple dial turn to 'tune' it to the cartridge compliance. A totally different class of arm as compared to the stock arm.

Don't know if there stuff is any good or not, but from what I recall, it looks to be of higher quality than the KAB stuff. Just a looks thing I realize, but nice to see.

Johnny Cash, Live from San Quentin was on that turntable in the photos!

I like both kinds of music..........Country and Western.......
