Is Chrysler's tiny Fiat 500 finding buyers?

I saw one in a parking lot a few weeks ago and was impressed with the styling. Would love to have something about that size to scoot around in but I'm not putting money into a new car again for quite a while if I can avoid it.

Nice to see another '03 Mini Owner here. Is yours a base/R50? or an "S"? (Mine is a base R50).

The Mini does have more up-front passenger room than the 300-series BMW, and although I have found my back seat surprisingly comfortable for short trips, I wouldn't want to sit back there for more than a half hour. That said, it's got about as much rear seat room as an Audi A4 (which is surprisingly little for a car the size of an A4)
 
I have seen a several of the Fiat 500s lately. They are cute but overpriced and the gas mileage (at least for automatic) isn't that great for a car. I also see too many Smart Cars. I find them annoying and a bit frightening when they whiz by at 75mph on six lanes of I-40 :eek:

This type of car is very popular in this area. Portland has more Prius's then anywhere else per capita. Same with Mini's and the other ultra small econo cars. We have a very high level of enviromental guilt around here.

The one new car I wish we could afford (like I wish we could afford any new car) is the Mazda 3 5 door hatch back. I see so many Mazda 3's running around someone must know something.
 
Here in the People's Republic of Boulder, where there's more Prius' than you can shake a stick at - although they will shake a stick at you if you're driving a Hummer - I've only seen one or two. SmartCars for sure, loads of Minis, and several eCycles.

Personally, I miss my old 600 (the big brother to the 500) that I had many moons ago. And if you've ever heard an Abarth, there isn't a sound on earth quite like it!:thmbsp:
 
They certainly botched their advertising launch. I've never seen a more clueless misunderstanding of a target audience in my 12 years in advertising.

Oh, they'd LOVE The Mighty Valdez then...7500 lbs of 4X4 V-10 Ford Excursion....Mbwahahahahaha...Would almost be worth it to drive out there & get all of 'em in a righteous snit...
 
If my Suburu WRX doesn't hold out, I'm buying an Abarth. As long as they lose the J-lo commercials. But so far the Subaru is driving like new 100,000 miles later. I'm still wary of getting into what I got into with my VW GTI....nice, small car that was always breaking down.
 
Abarth= They do for Fiat what AMG does for Mercedes-Benz. A tuner firm. So, Tony can race it on Sunday in Rome. The Fiat 500 is tres cute! How do you become a millionaire in Italy? Easy, you open a body shop!

Also there's two kinds of car guys. People who love all cars for what they are or the people who wear the American muscle car blinders.
 
I have seen a few around town. I do think they are cool looking and very practical considering gas prices are forever going up. We own to vehicles and since they build cars better then they ever have there is no need for another vehicle for awhile anyway.

That's what we have to accept owning European cars. They are expensive, high maintinence relationships, but once you fall in love......

It's safe to assume the Fiat wold be no exception.

If you want reliability and low cost of ownership, no doubt Japanese or Korean is the way to go.

My '95 Miata still drives like new and holds up like a champ. It's also my first import, oldest car I've owned and car with the most features/luxuries.

After starting out with several American cars, I have become a believer in Japanese superiority.
