Is the Adcom GFA-535 a Nelson Pass design?

Hey guys- I know some of the 5xxx series mosfet Adcom amps were a Pass design, but was the GFA-535 a Pass design as well? Just curious.

The 535, 545, and the 555 were all designed by Nelson Pass.

The 535 II was an evolution rather than completely new design. One thing about it I liked is that it had banana jacks for speaker outputs rather than that curious turn and lock device.

Some prefer the 535 II. Never heard one, so can't comment. I've got a 535 and am quite happy with it, though. 60 WPC with enough headroom to act like 90.

Nelson is such a cool guy. I was an Adcom dealer, and his name never came up in all the years I sold that series of products.

They don't LOOK like one of Nelson's designs inside, but then again, neither do my 6600s.

I don't believe that he did these. But if you ask him, he'll certainly answer and then we'll know for sure.

Nelson is a true legend. One of too few engineers who consistently gets it right.

I am hapy to own two Nakamichi Stasis PA-7's and a PA-5 as the amp section for music and HT.

Truly great equipment and sound.

It is a well known fact that NP designed the GFA-555. The link providedabove by ZeroG is to a thread in the DIY Audio forum where NP made a post confirming this, and alludes to designing the 535 and 545 as well.

Designed by him and built to his specs/standards are two different things. If I recall, I think he as eluded to this in a couple different things I've read about various companys/projects he's worked on. One of the reasons he left Forte, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm not trying to disparage any of the amps, I'm merely pointing out a point that may be overlooked.

Then I stand corrected. As far as "well-known," hmmm. As I said, his name never came up about this product in all the time I sold Adcom, and ordinarily, things like that come up in conversation. Thanks!
