Is the Sansui 8080db a great receiver?

@Bright_Star, I'd have to look at the G-9000DB service data, it may be it didn't have a double sided board to be an issue to begin with. I only have a G-9000, not A DB, so can't check the unit itself to see.

Another difference between the 8080/9090 and their respective DB variants, is that the former have quasi-complementary output stages, the latter are fully complementary. The change to fully complementary also yielded a modest power increase, 110WPC to 125WPC on the 9090DB
The G series receivers do not have the Dolby board problems of the 8080DB/9090DB receivers. The 8080DB/9090DB receivers are superior to the earlier 8080/9090 receivers in that they have a fully complimentary amplifier, and some other refinements such as the tuner power supply. Fixing the Dolby board is a PITA and fairly time consuming, but once that, and eliminating the fusible resistors, is done, they are very nice sounding, excellent reliable units.

I guess it's possible but he's been operating for a long time. I would have to see the unit in person before I would even consider buying it. Having to pay an unknown person and hoping that they will ship it would not happen for me.

I have had a 9090db and an 8080db (neither one was restored) but it was at two different times so my opinion may not be valid. I thought that the 8080db was the best sounding of the two. I thought both sounded very nice.
I've had a couple of 9090DB and still have an 8080DB. Why? The 9090DB is $$$ so I sell them because the 8080DB sounds just as good with a little less headroom but I'm old and it really can be too loud ;)

Failed to mention earlier, but I have a 9090DB, 8080DB (which needs work), a 990DB and 890DB here. So, yes, I'm a big fan of the line. Had an 8080 years ago, sounded great and worked perfectly, but traded it off for some other gear. If the specific unit the OP asked about is in fact a Dave Culver scam (that has not be clarified, yet) then take a pass and wait for a legit deal to come along.

I'm in the neighborhood, it's a Dave thing.
He also advertises on OfferUp but OfferUp holds the money in escrow until the buyer is happy. Is Dave just an attention whore? Anybody know anybody who's been scammed by ol' Dave?

I've seen his ads a few times on CL in the St. Louis area, but not frequently. I guess he judged it a non-productive market to target, and by my own recent efforts at selling anything on there, it sure has been. Apparently, everyone here is flat busted and forced into extreme frugality. Ok, I may be exaggerating just a bit.

At any rate, this craigslist cockroach has been working his scam for years, at least back to 2017 to my knowledge. There have been multiple threads here, on Reddit, Steve Hoffman forums and elsewhere putting him on blast. And still he keeps getting suckers on the hook.

Sure would be nice if he saw a takedown ala Noah Schumacher, but he has diffused his damage across so many jurisdictions, and the individual amounts involved are much less then those typically absconded with by Noah, that he seems to avoid getting on the radar. I also wonder how many of his victims have bothered to file police reports, since the way the scam works would make it pretty tough to do that.
