Is this an awewsome turntable

How great do they sound??

I am lining up for my next snag and am curious as to how these sound

Generally at the very least, they don't suck. It'll sound different then what you are used to with the same carts in all likelihood once properly set up. I'd pick it up if the price is right and do some serious diligence re info on care and feeding, ect.

I had read that the Linn Reps used to demo it with a crappy cartridge and it would smoke ok tables with great carts.....

It kind of grabbed my attention

They do really deserve a decent compatible cart, which arm is on it?

Those things come with a whole shopping list of upgrades either already done or waiting to be done. Properly set up and with at least some of the upgrades, they can sound excellent. A base level one can apparently still sound pretty good, if properly set up.

A friend has a fairly heavily upgraded one and it sounds fabulous.

When you get to the really superbly performing ones, think ‘granddads axe’.

They are very good tables with proper setup and some simple mods. I believe the power supplies in them are not the best. But yea they are great tables.

They have always been great tables in their time. However, they are vastly different now compared to what they were in the 70's. We do need more info to understand exactly what you have.

Tell us more about the table. Serial numer, power supply, bearing, arm, etc. Also, how much are you going to be into it?

Agree. These are great tables. Even the originals, if properly cared for, stand tall.

Do remember while the Linn is superb, setup is finicky. And the LP-12 was made for many years. I myself would go for the level after Valhalla unless cheap and all is working really well. There are a zillion upgrades for the Linn. But if you live in a house with wood floors and no wall shelf, may not be the ideal turntable for you.
